Edinboro Lacrosse Team Participates In DEP Coastal Cleanup

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's lacrosse team recently took part in the Department of Enviornmental Protection Coastal Cleanup, a worldwide effort to clean coastal areas held during the month of September.

Edinboro lacrosse team members split up into groups of three and covered sites on campus at Mallory Lake as well as the creek running from Scotland Road to U.S. Route 6N. In addition to picking up trash and other litter, the work included documenting what was found.

This year marked the 27th annual International Coastal Cleanup, the oldest and largest volunteer shoreline cleanup of its kind.

“The weirdest thing the team found was a hubcap,” Edinboro lacrosse head coach Kevin Cooke said. “More importantly, a few groups picked up several thank-yous from passersby.”

During the past nine years, the Coastal Cleanup has collected over 108,000 pounds of litter surrounding Lake Erie. In all, an estimated 70 volunteers from Edinboro University volunteered to clean up areas on and around campus.
