KANSAS CITY, Mo. (December 3, 2014) - The 2014 NSCAA All-Atlantic Region team was announced earlier today, with four Edinboro players receiving recognition.
Becca Costello (Erie, Pa. / Mercyhurst Prep) earned first team honors while
Liz Debo (North Huntingdon, Pa. / Norwin) was named to the second team, and
Jansen Hartmann (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) and
Meghan Kelly (Mars, Pa. / Mars Area) received third team accolades.
This was the second straight year Costello earned first team NSCAA All-Atlantic Region. Last week, the senior defender was named to the first team Daktronics All-Atlantic Region team. Costello was named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year and was named to the All-PSAC first team for the third time last month. The Erie, Pa. native was the first player in school history to earn either Offensive or Defensive PSAC Athlete of the Year. She earned first team Daktronics All-Atlantic Region recognition last season playing as a midfielder in addition to first team All-PSAC honors.
Costello shined on the Edinboro backline after playing midfield the past two seasons. Offensively she scored three goals and had three assists for nine points while starting all 19 games. She was generally responsible for marking the opposing team's best offensive player and helped the Fighting Scots allow only 22 goals this season. Costello scored 15 career goals to finish in a tie for tenth place in school history and has 44 career points, good for 11th all-time.
This is the third time Debo has earned NSCAA All-Atlantic Region honors, named to the first team as a junior and second team as a sophomore and senior. She was named to the first team Daktronics All-Atlantic Region as a sophomore and junior before being honored as a second team selection this year.
The senior forward became a three-time All-PSAC honoree earlier last month after being named to the second team All-PSAC. Debo was a first team selection each of the past two seasons. She tied for the team lead with six goals and added on two assists for 14 points this season. Three of her goals were game-winners while playing in all 19 matches with 18 starts. The North Huntingdon, Pa. native became the school's all-time leader in goals scored this season with 39. Debo finished her career with 84 points, the fourth-highest total in school history.
Kelly enjoyed an illustrious career in the classroom and on the playing field as a four-year starter at goalkeeper. She is a first-time NSCAA All-Atlantic Region honoree to go along with her first All-PSAC honors this year. Off the field Kelly was recently named to the Capital One Academic All-America first team.
The senior goalkeeper had a 10-7-2 record this year with a 1.02 goals against average and 77.3 percent save percentage. Kelly holds school records for wins (41), minutes (6497), and shutouts (21), along with ranking second in goals against average (1.03). She is tied for tenth all-time in PSAC history with the 21 shutouts. She also holds the season record for wins (12 in 2012 and 2013), shutouts (7 in 2013), and minutes played (1795 in 2012).
Hartmann, the only underclassman in the group, received NSCAA honors for the second time in her career. In 2012 she garnered second team NSCAA All-Atlantic Region honors. Hartmann was also named to the second team All-PSAC for the second time in her career recently. She was previously bestowed that honor as a freshman in 2011.
The junior midfielder/forward topped her career-highs from that season while finishing tied for first in goals (6) and first in points (17). Hartmann's five assists also tie her career-high from that freshman campaign. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native is now in 14th place for career goals (14) and 13th in school history in points (42).
Edinboro finished the season with a 10-7-2 record and went to the PSAC Tournament for the fifth straight year.
