Aignee' Freeland's Fourth Straight Double-Double Powers Fighting Scots to Fifth Consecutive Win

GREENSBURG, Pa. (January 24, 2016) – Senior forward Aignee' Freeland recorded her fourth straight double-double and eighth of the season to lead the Edinboro University women's basketball team to its fifth consecutive win, 65-54 at Seton Hill. The five straight wins is the longest win-streak of the season for the Fighting Scots. Edinboro improved to 14-6 overall and 9-5 in conference play. Seton Hill is now an even 10-10 overall and 6-8 in the PSAC West.
 
Freeland scored the first two baskets of the game to give the Fighting Scots a quick 4-0 lead under two minutes into the game. Edinboro would build a 24-10 lead with 1:16 remaining in the opening period thanks to a 14-2 run.

Lauren Hippo is just 11 points away from her 1,000 career point
Lauren Hippo started the run with a 3-pointer, followed by back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman Michelle Jahn. Katie Fischer hit a jumper to make it 21-8 and then Hippo capped the run with her second 3-pointer of the quarter to make it 24-10.
 
The Fighting Scots took a 34-23 lead into halftime and pushed it to 43-27 by the 6:58 mark of the third quarter. Edinboro began the third period of play on a 9-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers by Hippo.
 
The Griffins wouldn't go away quietly, however, scoring eight unanswered points, four from Jharrin Gill, to cut the deficit to 48-42 with 1:58 remaining in the third. A pair of Jahn free throws gave the Fighting Scots an eight-point lead at 50-42 heading into the final quarter.
 
Seton Hill opened the fourth quarter with a 6-2 run to cut the Edinboro lead to just four points at 52-48 with 8:15 remaining. Jahn's 3-pointer broke a dry spell to push the Edinboro lead to 55-48 with 6:55 remaining.
 
Seton Hill cut the lead to just three points at 57-54 with 3:38 remaining, but the Fighting Scots held the Griffins scoreless the remainder of the game. Edinboro ended the game on an 8-0 run to seal the victory, sparked by back-to-back baskets in the paint by Freeland.
 
Freeland led the Fighting Scots with 21 points on 10-of-19 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds to complete the double-double. She also added five blocks, increasing her career total to 117, just 10 away from entering the top five in school history. She currently ranks sixth in career scoring with 1,407 points and third in career rebounds with 882.
 
Jahn added 16 points and was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Hippo pushed her career points total to 989 with a 14-point showing. She added six boards and a block.
 
Katie Fischer was the fourth Fighting Scot in double figures totaling 10 points. The PSAC's assist leader, Fischer dished out another six assists and picked up a pair of steals.

Jenna Kaufman was the lone Griffin to score in double figures, totaling 16 points and registering a team-high nine rebounds.
 
Edinboro shot 41.4 percent (24-of-58) from the floor and was an even 50 percent (7-of-14) from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots converted 66.7 percent (10-of-15) of their chances at the charity stripe, all in the second half. Seton Hill shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59) from the field, but were held to just 1-of-15 from three.
 
The Fighting Scots held a slim 39-35 advantage on the glass, outrebounding their opponent for the sixth straight game.
 
Edinboro returns to action this Wednesday, January 27, making the short trek to Erie to face local rival Gannon for the second time this season. The Fighting Scots will be looking for revenge after dropping the first meeting to the Lady Knights at McComb Fieldhouse in December.
