EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro athletic department held its annual Toys for Tots Drive on Saturday, December 10 in conjunction with the basketball doubleheader against Cheyney. Fans were admitted free of charge with the donation of a new toy. In addition, donation of toys were accepted throughout the week.
Edinboro's Toys for Tots Drive was started by assistant athletic trainer
Audra Neumann in 2011, with 2016 marking the sixth year for the toy drive. Edinboro annually collects between 80-120 toys in varying sizes. The toys are then taken to the Marine Headquarters in Erie to be distributed in Northwestern PA during the Christmas season.
Another assistant athletic trainer,
Danielle Lodanosky, started the Holiday Mail for Heroes through the American Red Cross in 2015. This was also done at a basketball game to allow fans and students to sign holiday cards for members of the military. The cards are then taken to the local Red Cross and distributed to local veterans, local vet hospitals and also overseas to active troops.
