EDINBORO, Pa. (February 23, 2016) – Edinboro University will host the 2016 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28 at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports & Recreation Dome. It marks the sixth time in the last seven years that Edinboro has hosted the event.
A total of 16 women's teams and 11 men's squads will compete for the PSAC championship. Edinboro competes only in the women's indoor track & field championships. Shippensburg is the defending women's champion and has won four of the five crowns. Slippery Rock was the 2014 champion. On the men's side, Shippensburg is in search of its sixth straight PSAC title. Slippery Rock was second both in the men's and women's competitions last year.
Among last year's award winners, California(Pa.)'s Alexandra Zanella returns as the women's Most Valuable Track Athlete after winning the mile and 800m run. Shippensburg's
LeQuan Chapman was named the 2015 championship's Most Valuable Field and Overall Athlete, and returns this year.
Saturday's competition starts at 11:30 p.m. with the weight throw for the men and the long jump for the women. Sunday's events begin at 10:30 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles for the men's heptathlon. www.gofightingscots.com The Edinboro women's indoor track & field team finished fifth last year out of 16 teams, and look for a similar strong showing this year. The Fighting Scots are expected to pose a strong challenge in the 5000m run. Four Fighting Scots are ranked among the top eight times in the PSAC this year, led by
Ida Narbuvoll. The freshman, who earned All-American honors in cross country in the fall, has the top time at 17:15.75.
Senior
Kasey Jones was second a year ago and holds the second-best time in the PSAC at 17:27.07. She is also a former cross country All-American. Ann H

th – 17:35.06) and
Emma Sullivan (8
th – 17:44.13) are also in the top eight. Narbuvoll and Jones have posted NCAA provisional qualifying times.
The foursome will also compete in the 3,000m run, with Narbuvoll owning the third-best time in the PSAC at 10:00.40, another provisional mark, and Sullivan fourth at 10:07.58. Jones was fourth a year ago.
Head coach
Anne Carlson hopes that her distance medley relay team can maintain its top time in the PSAC this weekend. The Fighting Scots own a provisional time of 12:06.19. Right now the foursome of
Rebekkah Bond,
Terionna Ware,
Abby Peters, and
Abbey Lang are scheduled to compete, although that foursome could change.
In the field events, Abby Schultz has been Edinboro's top competitor while competing in the shot put and weight throw. The freshman owns a season-best of 43'3" in the shot put, good for fourth in the PSAC, while her throw of 46'2.75" in the weight throw ranks ninth.
Sophomore
Molly Regan looks to improve on her 12
th-place finish in the pole vault at last year's championships. She has a best of 11'3.75" this year, ranking sixth in the PSAC.
