Fighting Scots Fall Victim to Second Half Shooting Struggles, Drop a 73-60 Decision to Indiana (Pa.)

INDIANA, Pa. (February 6, 2016) - The Edinboro University women's basketball team suffered a cold shooting second half en route to a 73-60 loss to Indiana (Pa.) in the Kovalchick Complex. With the loss, the Fighting Scots have been swept by the Crimson Hawks for a second consecutive season. Edinboro is now 16-8 overall and 11-7 in the PSAC West, while IUP improves to 16-6 and 13-5 in conference play.

Edinboro shot just 25.0 percent (8-of-32) from the field in the second half, including going just 1-of-13 from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots put up just 28 points in the second half, 11 of which were scored from the free throw line.

The Crimson Hawks scored the first six points of the contest, taking a quick 6-0 lead two minutes into the game. The Fighting Scots ended the opening quarter on an 11-7 run to take a 15-14 lead into the second period.

The Edinboro lead grew to as many as seven points at 30-23 in the second quarter with 3:22 remaining following an 8-2 run, bookended by a pair of Aignee' Freeland layups. The Crimson Hawks responded quickly, closing out the half on a 10-2 run to take a 33-32 lead into the locker room.

IUP scored the first 12 points of the third quarter to take a 13-point lead at 45-32 with 6:39 remaining in the third period and built the lead to as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter at 73-56. Edinboro scored just 11 points in the final quarter of play.

Katie Fischer led the Fighting Scots offense, totaling 20 points and five assists. Fischer increased her season assist total to 154, moving her into seventh all-time among the single-season assist leaders. Freeland added 19 points and fell one rebound short of recording her tenth double-double of the year, pulling down nine boards.

Lauren Hippo was the final Fighting Scot in double-figures totaling 12 points. Prior to her 3-pointer in the second quarter, Hippo had missed 14 consecutive 3-pt. attempts.

Edinboro shot 34.8 percent (23-of-66) from the field for the game and converted on just 3-of-18 3-pt. attempts, while IUP was 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field and 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scot held a 41-36 advantage on the glass and dominated in the paint, scoring 36 points in the paint to IUP's 18.

Marina Wareham led a quartet of Crimson Hawks scorers in double-figures with 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including making 6-of-8 3-pointers. Megan Smith and Zhane Brooks each added ten points. Brooks also collected ten rebounds to complete the double-double. Leslie Stapleton contributed 10 points.

The Fighting Scots will wrap up this three-game road trip on Wednesday, February 10 when they head to Pitt-Johnstown looking for a season sweep of the Lady Cats.
