Fighting Scots Tame Huskies, 63-55, for 13th Consecutive Win

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (January 9, 2016) – The red-hot Edinboro University women's basketball pushed their winning streak to 13 games with a 63-55 victory at Bloomsburg on Monday night. With the win, the Fighting Scots improved to 13-2 overall and remained unblemished in PSAC play at 9-0. Bloomsburg was defeated for an eighth straight outing and dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-9 in conference action.
 
For the twelfth time this season and seventh time in the last eight outings, the Fighting Scots held their opponent to under 60 points and for the sixth time in the last seven games the Edinboro pressure defense forced an opponent into more than 20 turnovers as the Huskies committed 21 errors in the contest.
 
Freshman Michaela Barnes led a trio of Fighting Scots scorers in double figures, finishing with 15 points. Redshirt sophomore Jontay Walton came off the bench to notch her fifth double digit scoring performance in the past seven games, finishing with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including hitting 2-of-4 3-pointers. Junior Ciara Rosten added 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Senior Katie Fischer was limited to nine points after scoring in double figures the past four contests, but played an effective floor game, dishing out a season-high eight assists and grabbed three boards. Fellow seniors Nicole Johnson and Maggie Moore provided a solid presence inside. Johnson finished with seven points, five boards and a pair of blocks while Moore dropped in six points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and also turned away a pair of shots.
 
After leading by just one-point at the conclusion of the first quarter at 17-16, the Fighting Scots took a six-point half time lead at 32-26. Edinboro concluded the first half scoring the final five points of the period while holding the Huskies scoreless for over two minutes.
 
Leading 41-37 with just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Fighting Scots orchestrated a 15-6 run to take a double digit lead at 56-43 with eight minutes left in the contest as Edinboro held on to win. The stretch was bookended by a pair of Walton layups and featured seven points from Barnes.

The Fighting Scots limited the Huskies leading scorer Morgan Klunk to just five points on 2-of-9 shooting. Klunk had scored in double figures in the each of the past five outings entering Monday night. Taylor Sneidman led the Huskies with 14 points while Alex Ross and Alyssa Mack added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Bloomsburg finished the contest shooting 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the field and 4-of-11 from deep. 
 
Edinboro won the battle of the boards for the tenth time in the past 11 contests, 34-32, 15 of which were offensive rebounds that they cashed in for 13 second chance points. The Fighting Scots also outscored the Huskies bench, 19-9.
 
The Fighting Scots return to McComb Fieldhouse for a meeting with local PSAC West rival Gannon on Wednesday, January 11. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
