ATLANTA, GA – The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has released their NCAA Division II All-American teams and Player of the Year, with Edinboro University's
Katie Fischer (Ambridge, Pa. / Ambridge) earning honorable mention All-American honors.
Fischer is the first Fighting Scot to earn honorable mention since Laurel Lindsay received the distinction in both the 2013-14 season and '14-'15 season. Valerie Majewski was named to the All-American team in 2013-14 season, as was Kiara Brown in 2011-12 and '12-'13. Samantha Blazetic was an honorable mention in both of those seasons as well.
Emporia State's Kelly Moten took home Player of the Year honors. California(Pa.)'s Miki Glenn and Mercyhurst's Angela Heintz were the only other PSAC players to receive recognition. Glenn was named to the 10-person All-American team and Heintz also earned honorable mention accolades.
The Fighting Scots finished the season at 21-9, recording their seventh consecutive 20-win season and eighth straight PSAC tournament appearance before falling in the quarterfinals to California(Pa.). With Fischer leading the way, Edinboro ranked third in the conference in scoring offense at 70.5 ppg.

Stan Swank reflected on the honor. "It's a tremendous honor and well deserved for Katie who had a great two years at Edinboro and led our team both years to be very successful, playing a major role from the point guard position."
Fischer, a 5'7" senior, transferred to Edinboro after playing two seasons at Mercyhurst. She was previously awarded All-PSAC West first team honors after being a second team selection a year ago. Fischer led the Fighting Scots in scoring for the second year in a row, averaging 14.8 ppg. She shot 36.9 percent from the floor (157-of-425), including 71-of-206 on 3-pointers (34.5 pct.), and 81.7 percent from the line (58-of-71). The 71 3-pointers made is tied for fifth in a season, and the 150 assists ranks ninth.
The Edinboro point guard had a team-leading 150 assists, and finished second on the team in steals with 56. She ranked ninth in the PSAC in scoring and is fifth in assists. In addition, she was fourth in 3-pointers made per game.
Fischer led the Fighting Scots in scoring 15 times, while scoring in double figures in 22 games. She scored 20-or-more points in eight games, with a high of 29 points against Daemen.
Fischer had an outstanding two seasons at Edinboro, scoring 922 points in 60 career games. Including her two seasons at Mercyhurst, she scored 1,231 career points. Fischer ranks 13
th in career assists at Edinboro with 338, and is tenth in career 3-pointers made (122) and tenth in 3-pointers attempted (362). During Fischer's two-year stint at Edinboro, the Fighting Scots were 41-19 overall and made the PSAC Tournament in both years.
