Adam Kaufman ('02) is regarded as one of the finest men’s basketball players in Edinboro history. The 2001 Sox Harrison Award winner, he holds the career assists record at Edinboro and ranks first all-time in the PSAC and second in Division II with 936. An outstanding playmaker, he holds the top two season assist figures and four of the top five, including a school record 273 in 1997-98 when he helped the Fighting Scots to a 26-8 record as a freshman. The 273 assists is tied for second all-time in the PSAC.

The 26 wins represent a school record as he helped the Fighting Scots win the PSAC championship and advance to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II East Regional. Kaufman would earn second team All-PSAC West honors as a freshman, then go on to be recognized as a first team All-PSAC West selection the next three years. He capped his brilliant career as a senior in 2000-01 when he was named the PSAC West Player of the Year and was a second team NABC All-District pick for the second straight year. He averaged 11.4 ppg. with 249 assists, the second-highest total in a season and sixth-highest ever in the PSAC. Known more for his passing than scoring abilities, he still eclipsed 1,000 career points and ranks 21st in career scoring with 1,148 points.

He also ranks second in career steals with 213, a figure that ranks 12th all-time in the PSAC, along with sixth in three-point field goals made (161), fourth in three-point field goals attempted (467), eighth
in free throws made (291) and ninth in free throw percentage (.804). He also stands third in career games played with 116, helping Edinboro to a 76-40 record during that period. Kaufman is the only player in school history to lead the Fighting Scots in assists all four years, and he also led the team in steals three seasons, one of only two players to do so. He has since gone on to a highly-successful career as a high school coach, leading Montour High School, his alma mater, to the WPIAL Class AAA Championship and to a runner-up finish at the 2011 PIAA Class AAA State Championships. He was recently named the PIAA Class AAA Coach of the Year.
