Ben Stroup ('07) was a standout on the football team from 2002-06, helping the Fighting Scots to PSAC West co-championships in 2003, '04, and '05. Edinboro made the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2003 and 2004, advancing to the regional semifinal in 2004. Edinboro had a 32-13 record during his four seasons. One of the top linebackers to ever play at Edinboro, Stroup was named the Sox Harrison Award winner in 2007. He was a consensus All-American as a senior, including earning first team Associated Press Little All-American honors, plus Daktronics second team and honorable mention D2Football.com All-American recognition. He was the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year as a senior, and was a two-time first team All-PSAC West honoree. As a senior in 2006, he finished as the team's leading tackler with 105 tackles, the most since 1996. He also led the team in tackles for loss (17.5) and sacks (5.5). He led the PSAC in tackles and was 18th in Division II. Stroup earned All-PSAC West accolades for the first time in 2005 as Edinboro led Division II in scoring defense, rushing defense, and total defense. He led the team with 76 tackles. The 2004 Edinboro squad defeated Bentley in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs before falling at East Stroudsburg in the regional semifinals. Stroup totaled 49 tackles that year while starting five of the last six games. All told, he played in 43 career games, with 27 starts, totaling 275 tackles, 46 tackles for losses, and 16.5 sacks.
