Dave Lechler (‘95) ranks as one of the all-time great swimmers at Edinboro. He specialized in the freestyle, and all told was a 17-time All-American while competing from 1990-95. At one point in time he held six school records, including the 200-yard freestyle, 200, 400 and 800-yard freestyle relays, and 200 and 400-yard medley relays. He earned his first All-American certificate in 1991 while competing on the 800-yard freestyle relay team, setting the school record in the process. The next year he was a four-time All-American – in the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle events along with the 400-yard freestyle relay. After sitting out the 1992-93 campaign he returned in ’93-94 and was a five-time All-American, led by a fourth place showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay and fifth place in the 400-yard medley relay. In addition, he added seventh place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 200 and 800-yard freestyle relays. He was also involved in three PSAC championships, as the 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay, and 400-yard medley relay teams won titles. In addition, he was second in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events along with the 800-yard freestyle relay. As a senior he picked up seven more All-American certificates, paced by third place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle, plus 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays, plus a fourth place in the 200-yard medley relay and fifth in the 400-yard medley relay. He added a third place showing in the 100-yard freestyle at the PSAC Championships, plus a fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle. Lechler would cap his career by earning All-Academic accolades as a senior.
