Dr. Richard Rahner was inducted in 2012 after earning the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Rahner is recognized for bringing distinction and honor to Edinboro University and its athletic department as the team physician for 22 years. Well-known and respected in the area for his abilities as a physician, he became one of the most enthusiastic and selfless supporters of Edinboro athletics. He served as an excellent teacher and mentor to the athletic trainers at Edinboro University. He always respected the knowledge and abilities of athletic trainers and believed that the best care of the athletes occurred when physicians and athletic trainers worked closely together as a team. He helped develop a system of consulting physicians in multiple specialties to further the care athletes received. Dr. Rahner genuinely enjoyed his interactions with the coaching staff and athletic administration and considered them friends as well as associates. Beyond his efforts as the team physician, he became an avid and active booster of the Fighting Scots. He participated in many athletic department fundraisers and donated his retainers back to the Athletic Training Department. These funds were utilized for such projects as renovations to the Athletic Training Room and athletic training continuing education. Dr. Rahner has served as a community leader in Erie for many years, including as a member of the Board of Directors of the Edinboro University Foundation. It has always been his belief that you give back to your community not just financially, but with his time and efforts.
