Lynn (Theehs) Atherley stands second all-time in career victories at Edinboro as the volleyball coach from 1994-2003. Incredibly, she guided the Fighting Scots to the PSAC championship match all ten years. All told, she finished with a 236-111 career record at Edinboro before taking over as the head coach at the University of Maine in 2004. She also ranks second in career winning percentage at .680. In ten seasons her Edinboro editions won 20-or-more matches eight times, and she had just one losing season. That came in her second season, 1995, when the Fighting Scots went 14-19. That team played such a demanding schedule that it still reached the PSAC finals. She would lead Edinboro to four PSAC Championships – in 1994, 1997, 1998 and 2001. In addition, her teams qualified for NCAA regional play nine times, winning four Atlantic regional Championships and advancing to the Elite Eight in 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2002. The Fighting Scots were 14-7 in regional play during her coaching tenure. Two of her teams won 28 matches, with the 1996 team finishing 28-13 while reaching the Elite Eight, and the 1998 team finished with a 28-9 record, winning both the PSAC and Atlantic Regional crowns. Her first team in 1995 duplicated that fete while going 27-5. Three other teams won 26 matches. She would be recognized as the PSAC Coach of the Year five times, in 1994, 1995, 1997, 2000 and 2003, and was named Edinboro’s Coach of the Year in 2003. She had 32 players earn All-PSAC West honors, including one PSAC West Player of the Year and three PSAC West Rookies of the Year. In addition, 29 players were accorded All-Atlantic region honors. Ashley Walton became Edinboro’s first AVCA All-American, earning the honor in 2002 and ’03.
