Samples is regarded as one of the finest wrestlers in Edinboro history while competing for the Fighting Scots from 1994-99. He concluded his career with a 99-25 record with 20 falls, winning two EWL championships and two PSAC championships and qualifying for the NCAA Division I National Championships three times. He capped his career in 1998-99 with a seventh place finish at 165 lbs. to earn All-American honors. He ended his senior year with a 30-4 record, winning his second EWL crown and second PSAC title. He was also selected the Outstanding Wrestler at the EWL Championships. He finished third at the Midlands Championships and seventh at the Las Vegas Invitational in ‘98-99. He won his first EWL and PSAC championships as a junior. He was the PSAC titlist at 158 lbs. and later moved up to 165 lbs. and won the EWL crown. He ended the year with a 33-7 record. After redshirting in 1994-95, Samples competed at 150 lbs. in 1995-96 and went 25-9, picking up a third place finish in the EWL Championships and earning his first trip to Nationals. He won the 150 lb.
