Martin Lyons ('94) came to Edinboro from Melbourne, Australia and departed as one of the school’s all-time great runners while competing in cross country and track & field. He burst onto the scene as a freshman in 1991, winning the NCAA Division II Cross Country individual national championship despite coming to the United States with limited cross country experience. He would go on to earn All-American honors all four seasons in cross country (1991-94), one of just two male runners and three runners total at Edinboro to do so. He also came away with the PSAC individual title in 1991 and was a four-time All-PSAC and All-East Region performer. He led the Fighting Scots to the PSAC Championship in 1992, ’93 and ’94. He was named to Edinboro’s all-time cross country team in 2006. In track & field, he was a two-time outdoor All-American – in the 10,000-meters in 1992 and the 5,000-meters in 1993. He still holds the school record in the marathon with a time of 2:21.35 set in 1995.
