Mike Sims ('96) was a standout at linebacker for the Fighting Scots from 1992-96. He concluded his career with 432 tackles, the third-highest career total. He earned All-American honors both in
1995 and ’96, and was a three-time All-PSAC West honoree. He enjoyed his finest season as a senior in 1996, when he was selected the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year and was a second team Associated Press Little All-America choice. He was also named a second team Football Gazette All-American and was a first team All-PSAC West choice for the second time. He finished that 1996 season with 119 tackles, with nine tackles for losses, six passes broken up and three fumble recoveries. In 1995, Sims ended the year with 105 tackles to help the Fighting Scots finish with a 9-2 record and win the PSAC West championship. He had 10 tackles for losses, five interceptions, and six passes broken up. He returned two of the interceptions for touchdowns. That earned him first team All-PSAC West accolades, along with honorable mention Football Gazette All-American status. He actually posted his highest tackles total as a sophomore, ending the year with 124 stops, with four for losses and an interception. He would be named to the second team All-PSAC West squad in 1994. As a freshman in 1992, Sims totaled 84 tackles, with five for losses. He broke up ten passes and recovered a fumble.
