Cleary Named PSAC West Men's Basketball Coach of the Year

Liggins, Mason, Coleman Earn All-PSAC West Honors

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – It has been a quite a week for Edinboro men's basketball coach Pat Cleary. On Monday, his Fighting scots presented him with his first postseason win. The fifth-year coach then led Edinboro to an upset of top-seeded Indiana(Pa.) on Wednesday. Today, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its 2018 All-PSAC Men's Basketball Teams. Cleary was selected the PSAC West Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.

Edinboro is well-represented on the All-PSAC teams. Keshawn Liggins and Jaymon Mason earned spots on the first team while Anthony Coleman was named to the second team.

IUP's Anthony Glover was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year, while Damon Miraud of Gannon earned Defensive Athlete of the Year honors. Pitt-Johnstown's Drew Magestro was the Freshman of the Year.

In the Eastern Division, Dustin Sleva of Shippensburg was selected the Athlete of the Year, with Frank Rokins of West Chester is the Defensive Athlete of the Year. Moe Williams of Kutztown was voted the Freshman of the Year, with Coach of the Year honors going to Jeff Wilson of East Stroudsburg.

Picked to finish eighth in the PSAC West in the coaches' preseason poll after an injury-ravaged team finished 8-18 a year ago, Cleary has led the Fighting Scots to an 18-10 record and a berth in the PSAC Final Four for the first time since 2008. The Fighting Scots finished 13-9 in the PSAC West, good for fourth in the division.

Edinboro endured despite suffering four losses in the final seconds, including three in the final two seconds. Along the way, they upset eighth-ranked Shippensburg for the biggest win in Cleary's tenure prior to Wednesday's 79-63 upset of IUP. Edinboro opened its playoff run with a 77-67 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Monday.

Cleary has guided Edinboro to the PSAC Tournament three times in the last four years.

Mason is now a four-time PSAC honoree. The redshirt senior guard was named the 2015 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, then the last three years has earned first team All-PSAC West accolades. This past Saturday, Mason became Edinboro's all-time leading scorer. He boosted his career total to 1,999 points on Wednesday with 24 points at IUP.

Mason is Edinboro's second-leading scorer at 16.7 ppg., along with averaging 4.3 rpg. He also leads the team with 97 assists and is the team's top three-point threat with 71 in 182 attempts. In addition to holding the school record for scoring, he is the career record-holder in free throws made (497) and attempted (593), while ranking second in 3-pointers made (238) and attempted (609), and fourth in assists (412).

Liggins joined the Fighting Scots this summer after playing at Idaho State a year ago. A 6'5" senior, he is the PSAC's leading scorer at 23.9 ppg. while ranking third in rebounding (10.4 rpg.). He ranks seventh in scoring and 17th in rebounding in Division II. He is second on the team in assists (92) and steals (33), while making 47-of-127 3-pointers.

The forward has had seven games of 30-or-more points, with a career-high 39 points against Seton Hill and 38 vs. Charleston(WV). He has scored 670 points, the third-highest season total, and his 291 rebounds is tied for 12th. In addition, he has made 145-of-183 free throws. He needs to make nine free throws to break the school record, and his free throws attempted ranks sixth. He ranks third in the PSAC and ninth nationally in double-doubles with 16.

A transfer from Cincinnati State Community College, he is Edinboro's third-leading scorer at 15.2 ppg., and also ranks third in rebounding (4.5 rpg.).
