Colt Sponseller is now in his third year as a member of the Edinboro wrestling coaching staff, joining coach Tim Flynn’s staff as an assistant wrestling coach in October 2012.

Sponseller is a former All-American and three-time NCAA qualifier (2009, 2010, 2011) while competing for the Ohio State University. He earned All-American honors thanks to a fourth place finish at 165 lbs. the 2011 NCAA Championships. He would finish that season with a 25-7 record, and was the Big Ten runner-up in both 2010 and 2011. In 2010 Sponseller had a 30-7 record and also finish second at the Big Ten Championships. He would end his career with a 105-24 record for the Buckeyes. 

In addition to his prowess on the mat, Sponseller was also an excellent student. He was a 2008 NWCA Freshman All-Academic selection, a 2010 and ’11 NWCA All-Academic Team member, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, and a three-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete. In 2012 he was a Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor finalist.4456

 
Sponseller graduated from Ohio State in March 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, specializing in marketing. In addition to his accomplishments as a Buckeye, he was a University Freestyle National Champion in 2010 and 2011, and a University Freestyle World Team member in 2011. He won a bronze medal at the 2012 University World Championships. 

In April 2013 Sponseller finished fifth at 74 kg./173 lbs. in the freestyle competition while competing in the 2013 Las Vegas/ASICS U.S. Open.
Sponseller is single and resides in Edinboro.
