Sweet is considered by former head coach Doug Watts to be one of the truly remarkable stories in his long coaching career. She was a non-traditional student who never ran in high school but went on to become a two-time All-American in cross country while also earning All-American honors in track & field. In fact, she began her career as a married 29-year-old. She noted that she had never seen a cross country meet until running in her first one in September 1995.  She went on to be named to Edinboro’s all-time cross country team after competing in cross country and track & field from 1995-1999. She earned All-American honors in 1996 and 1997, while also earning All-Region recognition in 1995, ’96 and ’97, and All-PSAC accolades in ’96 and ’97. In track & field, she was national qualifier in the 5,000-meters in 1996 and the 10,000-meters in 1996 and ’97, finishing as an All-American in 1996 in the 10,000-meters. She has remained an active runner and this past January competed in the 2014 Disney World Marathon, taking third place in her age group. She also coaches cross country at St. James in Erie.
