Men's Swimming Team Opens Season with Narrow Loss to Gannon

EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2013) -- The Edinboro men's swimming team opened the 2013-14 season with a narrow loss to local rival Gannon on Friday, dropping a 118-112 decision to the Golden Knights. The meet took place at McComb Fieldhouse.

Four swimmers were multiple winners, with Jared Malecki winning four events.  He won the 200-yard and 200-yard medley relays, along with the 50-yard breaststroke (28:07) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.29). The latter time qualifies him for PSAC's. Micah Cattell (200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays; 50-yard freestyle -- 22.02, PSAC) and Justin Ransel (200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays; 50-yard butterfly -- 24.62) were triple winners.  Luke Frederick swam a leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay.

Ransel also qualified for PSAC's in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing second with a time of 22.27, and Cattell's time of 48.93 in the 100-yard freestyle sends him to the PSAC's in that event.  

The Fighting Scots get right back into action on Saturday morning. They will once again face Gannon, along with Indiana(Pa.), in a tri-meet at the Spire Institute in Geneva, OH. the swimming gets underway at 10 a.m.
