EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro forced six Millersville turnovers to celebrate Senior Day with a 21-9 victory over the Marauders on Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium. The win was the second straight for the Fighting Scots as they ended the year at 3-8 overall and 3-7 in the PSAC. After snapping a 13-game losing streak a week ago, Millersville ended the year at 1-10 overall and 1-9 in league play.
Ten seniors were recognized before the game, but it was the play of several youngsters that keyed the win.
A less-than-inspiring first half found Edinboro trailing 7-0, as the Marauders held the ball for over 18 minutes and held a 201 to 89 yards advantage in total offense. The lead probably would have been much bigger if not for three lost fumbles.
Millersville's lone score came on a 17-play, 96-yard drive that ate up 9 minutes, 13 seconds. Facing a 3
rd-and-16 at the Edinboro 43, Matt Misley completed a 30-yard pass to Kevin Wiggins down to the 13. Four plays later Misley lofted a pass over several defenders for a four-yard touchdown to Tyler Zilen. Evan Stahl's extra point gave Millersville a 7-0 lead with 7:32 remaining in the half.
Cody HarrisEdinboro had an opportunity to put some points on the board with less than a minute and a half to play in the half.
Ben Eisel made a great diving catch of a
Cody Harris pass for a 25-yard gain to the Millersville 48. A pass interference penalty against Millersville moved the ball to the 33, and following an incomplete pass, Harris and
Marcus Hill combined on a 28-yard play to the Millersville 5. For the freshman Hill it was another busy day as he started for the third straight game at cornerback and also played wide receiver.
Harris found
Darren Massey for two yards to the four. With six seconds remaining, Edinboro ran one last play, but after searching for an open receiver, Harris was stopped at the two yard line as time expired.
Millersville would drive to the Edinboro 20 on its opening drive of the second half behind backup quarterback J.J. Paige, who was inserted after Misley was ejected late in the second quarter. When the drive stalled Stahl came in to attempt a 37-yard field goal, but it was blocked by
O'Sha Jackson.
Edinboro managed one first down on a 28-yard pass from Harris to Massey before being forced to punt. Millersville took over at its own 30. After a first down, the Marauders were facing a 3
rd-and-19 at the 32. Paige's pass was tipped by the intended receiver and
Corey Beck hauled it in at the 30. The redshirt freshman went in untouched the remaining 30 yards for his first career touchdown with 6:01 left in the third quarter.
Five plays from scrimmage the Fighting Scots had another pickoff, this one by Hill on another tipped ball by a Millersville receiver. It was Hill's first career interception and gave Edinboro the ball at its own 40.
Two plays later the Fighting Scots had the lead. Harris' deep pass downfield was hauled in by freshman
Kolbe Hughes at the Millersville 16 for a 44-yard gain. On the next play Harris eluded a sack and rolled to his left and found Massey in the back left corner of the end zone. A leaping Massey hauled it in for his 11
th touchdown reception of the season, the third-highest total in a season.
Paul Ortiz' extra point gave Edinboro a 14-7 lead with 2:41 left in the third quarter.
The Edinboro defense came up with another big play to set up the final touchdown of the game. The Marauders drove from their own six to the Edinboro 48 and faced a 3
rd-and-4.
Victor Hudson and
Greg Cunningham threw Phil Vass for a yard loss. On fourth down, Paige was sacked for a loss of 11 yards by
Josh Kibbie and
Mike Shansky.
Taking over at the Millersville 40, Edinboro was the beneficiary of another pass interference call against Millersville for a first down at the 25. A Harris-to-Massey pass for 10 yards took the ball down to the 15, but Edinboro was called for holding on the next play.
Harris' 16-yard completion to
Matthew Wheelock carried down to the nine. The sixth-year signalcaller then hit Hughes for a seven-yard gain to the two. On 1
st-and-goal
Ryan Harkness sidestepped a tackler and went in for a two-yard touchdown with 4:14 to play. It marked the first six-pointer for the freshman tailback and was also Edinboro's first designed run of the second half.
Ryan Harkness Millersville would drive down to the Edinboro 9 yard line with just over a minute to play but the defense again stepped. Pressured by senior
Kyle Matula, Sean Quarterman's pass was well beyond the end zone on 4
th-and-goal.

Anfreenee Williams re-aggravated an injury early in the game. Second-string tailback
Keith Regis was already out with an injury, leaving Harkness as the lone available running back. He ended as the leading rusher with five yards on four carries.
