SUTHERLAND, Va. (March 12, 2015) – Salem International provided little resistance against the Edinboro softball team in the first meeting between the two on Thursday night. The Fighting Scots hit four home runs, two by
Haley Struebing, and won 8-0 by way of mercy rule in the sixth inning. Edinboro won its fourth straight game and improved its record to 6-2 on the year. The Tigers fell to 4-2 this season.
The Fighting Scots opened up the floodgates early. Struebing stepped to the plate with
Laura Crooks on third base and
Kylie Mason on second base. The right-hitting junior delivered a home run over the opposite wall to score three runs.
Theresa Fleckenstein then matched Struebing with a bomb to left field. Edinboro led 4-0 at the end of the first inning.

Callaghan hit her first home run
of the seasonMason extended her hitting streak to eight straight games dating back to last season in the bottom of the fourth inning when her single drove in Crooks to extend the Scots lead to 5-0.
Brooke Callaghan added a third home run for Edinboro in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out and nobody on base. The sophomore third baseman hit a shot over the left center field.
Struebing ended the game in the sixth inning. The Scots first baseman stepped to the plate after Mason tripled to deep center field. Struebing went opposite way again for her second home run of the game. Edinboro led 8-0 which ended the game on the mercy rule. She finished 3-for-4 with a double to go with the two home runs. Struebing totaled five RBI.
Crooks scored twice and batted 3-for-3. Including today's earlier game against Mansfield, the sophomore center fielder hit 6-for-7 on the day.
Fleckenstein was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double to left center field to go along with her homer.
Callaghan walked in the first inning and reached on a fielder's choice in the third frame in addition to her fifth inning dinger.
Taylor Payne was spectacular once again on the mound. The sophomore pitcher improved her record to 3-0 while striking out six. She allowed six hits and walked none over six innings.

to a team-high 22The Scots 6-2 start is the fastest the program has reached six wins since the 2009 season. The Fighting Scots started that season with two losses before winning seven straight games.
Edinboro heads back to the Dinwiddie Complex tomorrow to face Salem International once again this time in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 10 a.m.
