GREENSBURG, Pa. (April 2, 2015) - The Edinboro softball team needed some late game heroics at Seton Hill on Thursday afternoon and
Brooke Callaghan rose to the occasion. The Fighting Scots third baseman hit a three run home run in the top of the seventh inning with two outs and trailing 5-4 to lead Edinboro to an 8-6 victory. The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Scots and is their first PSAC victory of the season. The second game was called after seven innings of a 1-1 game and results in a tie. Edinboro is now 9-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the PSAC. Seton Hill record sits at 15-6-1 and 7-4-1 in the conference.
Callaghan finished the day 3-for-7 (.429) with two runs, two home runs, and four RBI. She is now second on the team with 11 runs and tied for second with three home runs.
GAME ONE: Edinboro 8, Seton Hill 6The Fighting Scots let an early 4-1 lead slip away just to comeback in dramatic fashion in the first game. Edinboro entered the top of the seventh inning having surrendering the last four runs of the game and trailing 5-4.

Laura Crooks reached on a bunt to lead off the inning.
Heather Tighe then laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Crooks to second before
Haley Struebing popped out to left field for the second out.
Shelby Proctor was hit by the second pitch of the at-bat to put runners on first and second, two outs, and Callaghan stepping to the plate. The sophomore third baseman launched her second home run of the season to give Edinboro a 7-5 lead.
Theresa Fleckenstein added an insurance run with her second solo home run of the game to give the Scots an 8-5 advantage going into the bottom half of the frame.
Lauren Sauerwein tripled down the left field line after Huff grounded out.
Kalet Lenart struck out Paige Hertzog looking for the second out. Erika Arriola wasted no time in bringing home Sauerwein with a single on the first pitch of the at-bat. Ashley Perillo represented the tying run at the plate coming in to pinch hit for Caitlin Tobin. Lenart and Perillo battled to a 3-2 count before the Scots sophomore pitcher forced a lineout to the shortstop.
Edinboro's first run in the game came in the second inning as a result of a pair of errors. Proctor reached on an error by Huff with Struebing on base. With Proctor now on second and Struebing on third with two outs,
Courtney Korpus reached on an error by the Griffins shortstop allowing Struebing to score and take a 1-0 lead.
The Fighting Scots extended the lead to 3-0 the next inning via a two RBI double by Proctor to score Struebing and Crooks. In the bottom portion of the frame, the Griffins scored one on a Sauerwein RBI single. Edinboro led 3-1 heading into the fourth inning.
Fleckenstein hit her first home run of the game to lead off the fourth inning. Edinboro's 4-1 lead was short-lived as Seton Hill tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Victoria Stock doubled to bring in Carlee Wickstrom and Delaney Cortazzo and then Stock advanced to third as the result of a throw and home due to an error.
The Griffins broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hertzog scored off a triple by Arriola. Seton Hill led 5-4 at the end of the fifth inning, setting up the Scots seventh inning rally.
The Fighting Scots received a large portion of their production from the five-six-seven hitters in the line-up of Proctor, Callaghan, and Fleckenstein. The three combined to go 5-for-10 (.500), four runs, three home runs, and seven RBI.
Crooks and Struebing each added a pair of runs while Crooks hit 3-for-4 at the plate and Struebing reached on two walks.
Stock drove in two runs and scored two runs for the Griffins while hitting 3-for-4. Arriolra also had two RBI while batting 2-for-2.
Lenart earned the victory as she moved to 2-2 this season with the complete game. The Cicero-North Syracuse native struck out five and is now at 95 career strikeouts, five away from becoming the 10
th player in school history to reach 100 career strikeouts. She gave up 12 hits, walked three, and gave up five earned runs.
Huff's record fell to 5-4 after throwing all seven innings. She allowed eight hits, eight runs, seven earned, and three walks while striking out seven.
GAME TWO: Edinboro 1, Seton Hill 1Seven innings were not enough for these two teams in the second game, but the game was called due to rain and results in the first tie of the season for each team.

Taylor Payne struggled out of the gate. The Griffins loaded the bases with two hits and a base on balls. Payne escaped without allowing a run when Christine Henderson was tagged out on a fielder's choice by Cortazzo.
Edinboro scored first when Callaghan hit her second home run of the game, a solo shot to center field in the second inning.
The Fighting Scots threatened in the top of the third inning with two runners in scoring position and only one out. The Scots heart of the order could not capitalize though as Tighe and Struebing each failed to reach base.
The Griffins made the most of a Scots wild pitch and error in the bottom half of the third inning. After Stock and Kaitlyn Kutchman each singled and then Paige Kovalchik pinch ran for Kutchman. Stock and Kovalchik each advanced on a wild pitch before scoring as a result of a fielding error. The game was tied 1-1.
Payne was pulled after the third inning and
Kerri Stevens came on in relief. Stevens stymied the Griffins over the next four innings, allowing only one hit, two walks, and no runs. Edinboro was unable to score over that time as well, scattering three hits across the final four frames.
Extra innings did not occur as the game was called due to rain. It results in a 1-1 tie for each team, the first tie of the season for each squad.

The two are meeting at the neutral site with the Fighting Scots serving as the home team. The two were scheduled to play in Edinboro, Pa. but were forced to move the location due to the softball field not being ready in Edinboro. The Golden Eagles are 2-12 this season, 1-7 in the PSAC, and already lost once to Edinboro this season by a score of 5-0.
