PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Jan. 9, 2016) – It was a tough day for the Edinboro University wrestling team at the Pitt Duals at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse on Saturday. The Fighting Scots faced a trio of teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, and suffered to losses to all three.  The three losses leave Edinboro at 5-6 overall.
 
The day began with a 26-11 loss to 15th-ranked North Carolina (7-1). Edinboro would win three matches. Sean Russell got the Fighting Scots off to a fast start as the redshirt freshman won by technical fall, 22-7, over Anthony Bosco at 125 lbs. The biggest win of the day came at 149 lbs., as freshman Patricio Lugo upset sixth-racked Evan Henderson, 9-4. Billy Miller accounted for Edinboro's other win with a 10-3 decision over Cory Daniel at heavyweight.
 
Next up was a first-ever meeting against Duke.  The Blue Devils won by a score of 30-15 as they improved to 1-2. Edinboro jumped out to a 9-0 lead after Russell won by forfeit and Anthony Rivera won a 10-4 decision over Brandon Leynaud at 133 lbs. The Fighting Scots would not win again, however, until Miller pinned Spencer Neff in the first period at 2:07.
 
Russell and Miller would go to 3-0 on the day with wins in the final match of the day, but it wasn't enough as third-ranked North Carolina State won 31-10. The Wolfpack won five matches by bonus points. Russell won an 11-5 decision over Sean Fausz at 125 lbs. as he boosted his season record to 19-5. Miller is now 21-5 after a 6-4 decision over Mike Kosoy at heavyweight.
 
Patricio Lugo accounted for Edinboro's other win with a 14-4 major decision over Chandler Pyke at 149 lbs. The freshman improved to 22-3.
 
Edinboro returns to EWL action on Saturday, January 16, hosting George Mason. That match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse.
