EDINBORO, Pa. (April 19, 2016) – The Edinboro University softball team dropped a pair of PSAC West contents on Tuesday afternoon as the Fighting Scots played a makeup twinbill with the visiting Seton Hill Griffins. With the pair of losses, Edinboro is now 11-19 overall and 5-11 in the West while the Griffins improved to 14-24 overall and 7-9 in conference ball.
The Fighting Scots will return to action on Thursday, April 21, at Clarion for a doubleheader. That will be the start of three doubleheaders in three days to conclude the regular season for the Fighting Scots. On Friday, April 22, Edinboro will head to Mercyhurst in search of a season sweep before making the home finale on Saturday, April 23, when the Fighting Scots host Slippery Rock for Senior Day.
Game One – Seton Hill 5, Edinboro 2The Griffins got on the board against Edinboro early, scoring two runs in the opening inning courtesy of an Ashley Perillo two-run home run that knocked off the scoreboard in deep center. Seton Hill added another run in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead, but the Fighting Scots immediately began to chip away, bringing a runner of across in the bottom half inning to cut the lead to 3-1.
Following a leadoff walk by
Brittany Allen and a
MaryLouise Lindner sacrifice bunt to put the runner in scoring position,
Danna Heh advanced Allen to third to allow
Haley Struebing to score her from third with an RBI single.
After three straight one-two-three innings, the Fighting Scots broke through once more in the bottom of the sixth to draw within one run at 3-2. Struebing doubled to left center, followed by a gap shot from
Olivia Jankowski to bring Struebing home from second.
In the next inning, the Griffins would separate themselves once more, as Victoria Stock hit a two-run double into left field to grow the lead back up to 5-2.
Claire Johnston recorded a pinch-hit double in the bottom of the seventh, but the Fighting Scots couldn't rally to tie as Kaitlyn Kutchman (9-9) held off the Fighting Scots to pick up the complete game win. Kutchman surrendered six hits, while fanning a pair of batters and walking one.
Carley Nasca (5-7) received the loss, tossing seven innings while giving up nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Struebing finished the opening contest 2-for-3 with one RBI and a double.
Game Two – Seton Hill 7, Edinboro 3Unlike the opening game of the twinbill, it was Edinboro who struck first in the opening inning thanks to a pair of extra-base hits. Leadoff batter
Danna Heh tripled to right, followed by a
Haley Struebing RBI-double to give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 lead.
Kylie Mason was able to eventually score Struebing to give Edinboro a two-run cushion.

Amanda Metz was able to prevent any further damage, causing the next two batters to pop out and line out, respectively.
In the fourth inning, the Fighting Scots grew the lead to 3-1 when
Brittany Allen brought
Kylie Mason home on a grounder to short.
Seton Hill orchestrated a four run sixth inning to take their first lead of the ballgame at 5-3, before adding a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to win 7-3.
Tiffany Edwards (2-4) earned the win in relief, pitching 2.2 shutout innings while giving up four hits and striking out three batters.
Abby Sotter (1-1) took her first loss of the season for the Fighting Scots, giving up four runs and walking a batter.
Struebing finished the final game of the day 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI while Mason finished 3-for-3 with an RBI as well.
