Walter Fletcher Named to Associated Press Division II All-America Team

Running Back Garners Second Team Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Edinboro University running back Walter Fletcher (Columbia, Md./ Centennial) has garnered yet another honor, and this one is a big one. One day after being named to the 2017 D2CCA All-America Team, Fletcher today has been selected to the 2017 Associated Press Division II All-America Team. Fletcher earned a spot on the second team.
 
Edinboro ended the 2017 campaign under interim head coach Wayne Bradford with a 7-4 record, the second-highest win total among first-year coaches at Edinboro.
 
Fletcher was also previously accorded D2CCA first team All-Super Region 1 honors and was first team All-PSAC West selection after earning second team honors a year ago.
 
A redshirt sophomore, Fletcher ran for a school-record 1,740 yards on 253 carries, which ranks fifth in a season. He was third on the team in receiving with 30 catches for 160 yards. He scored 18 touchdowns, rushing, good for third in a season, and added three touchdowns receiving for 21 total touchdowns.
 
The 5'9", 195 lb. running back ranks second in Division II in rushing yards, along with ranking second nationally in rushing yards per game (158.2 ypg.). In addition, he ranks second in the PSAC and fifth in Division II in total touchdowns and total points scored (126), plus second in the PSAC and sixth in the country in rushing TDs, second and eighth, respectively, in scoring (11.5 ppg.), and second in the PSAC and 15th nationally in rush yards per carry (6.9). He is also third in the PSAC and tenth in Division II in all-purpose yards (172.73 ypg.).
 
Fletcher rushed for 100-or-more yards in eight of 11 games, including a school-record four games with 200-or-more yards. He had back-to-back 200-yards, with 241 yards and 4 TDs on 25 carries in a 49-39 upset of 17th-ranked Slippery Rock, followed a week later by a 238-yard, 29-carry, 4-TD effort at Seton Hill. The two games rank sixth and seventh, respectively, in the single-game rushing records. He added 230 yards and 2 TDs on 30 carries vs. Clarion, and ended the year with 213 yards on 29 carries with 2 TDs at Cheyney. He had nine runs of 50-or-more yards, including a 98-yard burst for a touchdown against Slippery Rock.
 
After just two seasons, Fletcher is already seventh in career rushing with 2,289 yards. He also ranks seventh in career rushing TDs (24).
