CLERMONT, Fla. – The Edinboro University softball team dropped a pair of contests on the final day of their spring trip to conclude the trip with a 7-6 overall record. The Fighting Scots fell to Ohio Dominican, 8-1, to open the day before dropping a 5-1 decision to PSAC foe West Chester.
The Fighting Scots receive a much needed weeks worth of rest before returning to action. Edinboro is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Indiana(Pa.) on Saturday, March 25 before traveling to Pitt-Johnstown for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 26.
Game One – Ohio Dominican 8, Edinboro 1
The Fighting Scots opened the scoring in the days first contest to take a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Brooke Callaghan singled through the gap and stole second to set up
Courtney Allen's RBI double.
Ohio Dominican struck back in the next inning with a two-run triple to take the lead for good at 2-1.
The Fighting Scots threatened in the third inning, putting a pair of runners in scoring position following back-to-back singles from
Danna Heh and
Brittany Allen and a sacrifice bunt by Callaghan. Unfortunately Edinboro was unable to get any runners across as the next two batters grounded out.
Ohio Dominican added four more runs in the fourth and two in the seventh to secure the victory.
Edinboro committed six errors in the contest.
Abby Sotter (0-2) received the loss for the Fighting Scots. The senior pitch four innings, allowing five hits, six runs (two earned), and striking out a pair.
Abby Lamping threw the complete game for Ohio Dominican, giving up seven hits, one run and striking out six.
Callaghan finished the contest 2-for-2.
Courtney Allen was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Game Two – West Chester 5, Edinboro 1
Edinboro hung with with Golden Rams for four innings before dominant pitching and an error-filled fifth inning proved too much to overcome.
West Chester took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but added four more in the fifth courtesy of three Edinboro errors.

The Fighting Scots broke through in the top of the seventh following
Theresa Fleckenstein's second double of the game.
Emily Osterberg pinch ran for Fleckenstein and was hit in two batters later thanks to a
Brittany Allen RBI single.
The potential Edinboro rally was ended on a game ending double play as West Chester held on.
Carley Nasca (2-2) took the loss for Edinboro, allowing six hits and five runs (zero earned) and striking out three in four innings.
Amanda Metz gave up one hit and struck out a pair in two innings of relief.
Amanda Houck earned the win for West Chester, throwing a complete game with just four hits, one run and eleven strikeouts.
Fleckenstein finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Brittany Allen was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
