GREENSBURG, Pa. – After some wet weather forced the Edinboro softball team's PSAC West opening doubleheader to be shifted from Friday to Sunday, the Fighting Scots finally opened up conference action on Sunday afternoon, splitting a twinbill with Seton Hill in Greensburg, Pa. With the split, the Fighting Scots improved to 9-8 overall and opened up the season 1-1 in conference play, while the Griffins sit at 8-15 and 1-3, respectively. p
The Fighting Scots are scheduled to return to action on Friday, April 7, hosting local PSAC West rival Gannon for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Game One – Edinboro 5, Seton Hill 0
The Fighting Scots showed no signs of rust after over a week off, scoring quickly in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Following back-to-back walks from
Theresa Fleckenstein and
Brooke Callaghan,
Heather Tighe delivered an RBI single back up the middle.
Two innings later, Edinboro brought another run across. Fleckenstein's double to left center was rewarded by Callaghan's RBI triple to right center to grow the lead to 2-0.
In the top of the sixth,
Jessica Hyland notched her third homerun in two games, a two-run blast to left to give the Fighting Scots a 3-0 lead.

The Fighting Scots added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a
Claire Johnston pinch hit homerun to left to take the winning lead.
Carley Nasca (3-2) was dominant in the circle for the Fighting Scots, giving up just four hits and striking out a pair in the complete game victory. It was the second complete game shutout of the season for the sophomore.
Amanda Huff (4-5) took the loss for Seton Hill, giving up three hits, two runs, and two walks in three innings work.
Fleckenstein finished the contest 2-for-3 while Callaghan was also 2-for-3 with an RBI. Tighe went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Hyland was 1-for-3 with the two-run homer and Johnston made the most of her opportunity, finishing 1-for-1 with the solo shot.
Game Two – Seton Hill 10, Edinboro 3
Just like the day's opening contest, the Fighting Scots struck first in the top of the opening inning.
Callaghan singled to left and stole second to set up a
Brittany Allen RBI single.
The Griffins knotted the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the third following a leadoff triple by Hannah LaGrou. LaGrou was batted in just two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Victoria Stock.
Edinboro responded quickly, scoring two in the top of the fourth to regain the lead at 3-1. Following back-to-back singles by Fleckenstein and Callaghan, Tighe delivered a single to score both runners.
The lead changed once again in the next inning following a three-run bottom of the fifth by the Griffins. The big hit came on Christiana Skrabak's two-run single. Seton Hill tacked on six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-3 lead. Abbey Suhoski's three-run double highlighted the inning.
The Fighting Scots had one final inning to mount a rally in the top of the seventh, but recorded just one hit in the inning as Seton Hill held on to ensure the doubleheader split.
Amanda Metz (3-1) received her first loss of the season, giving up six hits and four runs (three earned) in 4.1 IP.
Leighann Pettis (2-7) threw the complete game, giving up seven hits and three runs.
Callaghan finished the second contest of the day 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Tighe was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Brittany Allen was 1-for-2 with the final RBI.
Victoria Allocco was 1-for-3 with a double.
