Dan Gierlak Coaches His 1,000th Career Game as Fighting Scots Drop Twinbill to Seton Hill

Edinboro, Pa. – Now in his 28th year at the helm of the Edinboro softball program, head coach Dan Gierlak notched another milestone under his belt this afternoon when he coached his 1,000th career game in Tuesday's doubleheader against Seton Hill. Gierlak is the longest tenured coach in program history and is the all-time wins leader as a member of the 400-win club with 431 career victories.

Tuesday's doubleheader with the Griffins was a completion of a twinbill suspended due to rain on April 15. With the sweep, the Fighting Scots fell to 13-18 overall and 4-10 in the PSAC West while the Griffins improved to 18-21 and 10-6, respectively.

The Fighting Scots are right back in action tomorrow afternoon playing a doubleheader at PSAC West foe California(Pa.) with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m.

Game One – Seton Hill 7, Edinboro 6
The Griffins opened the scoring in the doubleheader back on April 15 as Paige Hertzog stole home in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. The Fighting Scots answered right back in the next inning on a Heather Tighe RBI double to knot the game up at 1-1.

Victoria Allocco led off the home half of the third with a single followed by a Danna Heh single to put runners on first and second. Brooke Callaghan sent a single back up the middle to score Allocco from second and advance Heh to third. The Fighting Scots lead grew to 4-1 on the next at bat as Olivia Jankowski reached safely on a fielder's choice and both Heh and Callaghan came around to score on a throwing error by the second baseman.

16700Heavy rain forced the contest to be suspended before continuing play this afternoon.

The Griffins took advantage of a pair of Edinboro errors in the top of the fourth, scoring four unearned runs to tie the game up at 4-4. Chrisianna Skrabak delivered the big hit, a two-run double to left field.

Seton Hill retook the lead at 7-6 in the next inning on an Amanda Huff three-run homerun.

With the score at 7-4 heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Fighting Scots got back into striking distance with two outs. Jankowski doubled to center field to set up a Claire Johnston two-run bomb to left field to make the score 7-6. Heather Tighe singled to third to put the tying run on base, but the Fighting Scots could advance her no further as Huff shut the door for the save.
