Kody Duncan Named Interim Men's & Women's Tennis Coach

Men's Tennis /
EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro University Director of Athletics Bruce Baumgartner today announced the appointment of Kody Duncan as interim men's and women's tennis coach. Duncan assumes the duties previously held by Lee Underwood, who resigned recently to accept a similar position at Barton College.

Duncan is no stranger to Edinboro tennis. He played for Underwood and the Fighting Scots from 2011-15 before graduating from Edinboro with a bachelor's degree in HPE – Human Performance. He takes over at Edinboro after a short stint at Allegheny College, where he was the assistant men's and women's tennis coach since June.

"We are pleased that Kody will be taking over our head coaching responsibilities, " related Baumgartner. "He came highly-recommended, including by Lee Underwood. He obviously has some big shoes to fill while taking over for a coach who resurrected the Edinboro tennis program and turned it into one of the best in the region.

"In addition, I want to thank the Allegheny administration for their understanding during this process. Unfortunately, our gain leaves them in a bit of a bind at this late time. They were very classy in their understanding for Kody's well-being through this process."

Duncan looks forward to following in Underwood's footsteps and taking over the tennis program at Edinboro.  "As a former student-athlete at Edinboro University, it is an honor to take over the head coaching duties for both tennis programs," Duncan commented. "Being back at my alma mater is such a privilege and I want to thank the University and the athletic administration for the opportunity. Coach Underwood has built a powerhouse of a program and I look forward to maintaining that kind of success. I am very excited for the season and I believe both teams will have an opportunity to do something special this year."

A native of Oil City, Pa., Duncan finished with a 43-26 record in singles action as a Fighting Scot, and was 26-28 in doubles play.  He was part of two PSAC championship teams, including playing an integral role on the 2013-14 squad that finished 19-9, winning the PSAC title and advancing to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16.  His top season came in 2012-13, when as a sophomore he earned All-PSAC accolades in doubles play. He finished the year at 18-8 in singles action and 13-7 in doubles.

Duncan was also outstanding in the classroom, as well. He earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors as a sophomore and junior, and was a PSAC Scholar Athlete.

Duncan graduated from Edinboro in the fall of 2015. He served as a volunteer assistant tennis coach at Oil City High School that fall, and has also worked at the Oil City YMCA. In addition, he served as the Oil City boys head soccer coach from August 2015-May 2016. He moved on to Moravian College in July 2016 and remained working in the athletic department as assistant equipment manager until taking the position at Allegheny.
