Fighting Scots Drop Conference Opening Doubleheader at Seton Hill 3-1, 5-0

GREENSBURG, Pa. - After a near three week hiatus due to inclement weather, the Edinboro softball team played their first contests up north. The Fighting Scots dropped game one of a doubleheader to the Griffins, 3-1, and then 5-0 in game two.

The Fighting Scots fall to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC West, while the Griffins improve to 11-6 with a 3-1 mark in conference play.

Edinboro was originally scheduled to host Seton Hill in its season and conference opener on March 30. The Fighting Scots will now host the Griffins on Saturday, April 14, as the two were scheduled to play then in Greensburg.

Due to potential weather and field conditions, several other changes have taken place over the next few days.

The Fighting Scots were scheduled to play a doubleheader against California(Pa.) in Edinboro on Friday, followed by a doubleheader at Mercyhurst on Saturday. However, both twinbills have been postponed. No make-up date has been announced for the Vulcan contests. The Lakers and Scots are rescheduled for Sunday, April 8 with the games being played at Mercyhurst North East. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Game 1: Seton Hill 3, Edinboro 1

The Griffins pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Paige Hertzog opened the inning with a single and eventually scored on an error. Devyn Terry also reached with a base hit and later scored on a passed ball.

Edinboro cut the deficit to 2-1 with a run in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Roni Lipinski hit a double to left field for Edinboro's first hit. Jessica Little followed with an RBI single to left field, cutting the Fighting Scots deficit to 2-1.

Seton Hill would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Brooke Bower.

Carley Nasca took the loss for the Scots, falling to 1-4 on the year. The junior scattered nine hits, with three walks and three strikeouts. Terry allowed just the two hits in the fifth inning, striking out four and walking one.

Game 2: Seton Hill 5, Edinboro 0

Seton Hill tacked on two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brooke Bower reached base on a bunt single to third. She stole second and would later steal home plate. Jenna Osikowicz scored the other run for the Griffins in the inning. After reaching base on a fielder's choice, she scored an unearned run on a fielding error by Heather Barrett.

The Griffins added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 5-0 advantage. Pinch runner Allison Kapoll scored off Samantha Estupinian's RBI single down the left field line. Estupinian scored on the next at-bat, as Bower hit a two-run home run to left center field.

Roni Lipinski went 2-for-2 on the day, while Ashley Pearson, Danna Heh, and Shannon Gilbert each had a hit for Edinboro.

Amanda Metz recorded the loss, falling to 1-4 on the year. In 3.2 innings of work, she allowed five runs off six hits. Kerri Stevens, who relieved Metz, pitched 2.1 innings. She gave up three hits and struck out three batters.

Skyla Greco took the win for Seton Hill. She pitched the entire contest, scattering five hits with one walk, and three strike outs.
