EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro wrestling team dropped their final non-conference dual of the season, 31-6, to Oklahoma. Jacob Oliver (174 lbs.) and Jon Spaulding (285 lbs.) both picked up decision wins over the Sooners. Edinboro moves to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the EWL while the Oklahoma improves to 6-6 and 1-3 in the Big 12.

The Sooners are coached by former two-time Edinboro All-American and assistant coach Lou Rosselli, Rosselli is in his third year with the Sooners.
 
Oliver recorded a takedown and two near fall points early in the first period against Anthony Mantanona. A reversal for the Sooner brought him within one, but a last second escape gave Oliver the 5-2 lead after one period. Oliver chose down to start the second and used an escape and less than five seconds later a takedown to jump ahead 8-2. A late escape by Mantanona pulled the score within 8-3 heading into the third period.
 
A second stall warning on Mantanona gave Oliver a point and with over a minute of riding time, Oliver picked up the 10-3. Oliver improved to a team leading 25-4 on the season.
 
In the first periods at heavyweight, Spaulding and Jake Boyd went scoreless, with both wrestlers getting a stall warning. Boyd chose down to start the second. An escape early in the second period staked Boyd up 1-0, but a second stall warning on Boyd pulled the match even at 1-1 heading into the third. After Spaulding started down to start the final period, he used a reversal early in the period to go up 3-1.
 
Spaulding picked up his second stall warning to have Boy pull within 3-2. Spaulding was able to ride out the period and picked up a riding time point for the final 4-2 decision. He improved to 18-13 on the season.
 
The Fighting Scots will return to the mat in two weeks on Friday, February 22 when they host Clarion in their final dual of the season. The EWL contest will kick off at 7:00 p.m. as Edinboro will recognize the seniors for the dedication to the wrestling program.
