Edinboro Drops Only Five Games In 7-0 Sweep Over West Virginia State

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Between singles and doubles, the Edinboro men's tennis team gave up only five games total to earn the 7-0 sweep of West Virginia State on Wednesday morning. The Fighting Scots played the match as part of their annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head.
 
Edinboro mixed up some of the doubles teams and dropped only one game. Nils Plutat and Kevin Mboko teamed up at number one doubles and picked up the 6-1 win over Ryan Mullins and Noah Fulks. Tommy Hsu and Mateus Santos earned the 6-0 shutout over Ethan Cross and Dylan Jayasuriya. Mauricio Santos and Julius Schulte completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0 win over their own over Zach Fraley and Austin Gessel.
 
Mullins kept it close early in his match against Mateus Santos at number won with Santos winning 6-4. However, Santos would not drop a game in the second set to win 6-4, 6-0. Mauricio Santos, Plutat and Schulte all won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Playing for the first time this spring, Thomas McCoy and Louis Murphy did not skip a beat. McCoy won his match at number five singles, 6-0, 6-0 over Cross while Murphy earned his first career singles win with his 6-0, 6-0 over Gessel.
 
Edinboro (7-2) concludes their Spring Break trip with a 9:00 a.m. match against on Thursday, March 7.
