Edinboro Snaps Six-Game Skid, Forces Extra Innings on Final Day of Spring Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – Edinboro snapped its six-game skid on Saturday, as the Fighting Scots wrapped up competition on their spring trip at PFX - The Spring Games. The Fighting Scots began the day with a 6-1 win over Walsh, before falling to Ashland in extra innings, 4-3. Edinboro is now 3-8 on the year, while Walsh is 2-13, and Ashland improved to 11-5.

The Scots will begin preparation for PSAC play, upon returning north. Edinboro will head to Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, March 23 for a non-conference doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.

EDINBORO 6, WALSH 1
The Fighting Scot bats came alive over the first two innings, as Edinboro had eight of their 11 hits during that span. Olivia Jankowski and Heather Barrett put the Scots up 2-0 in the first inning off Cheyenne Bothun's two-run RBI-double to left center. Bothun would add the third run of the inning, scoring off Roni Lipinski's RBI-single. Edinboro extended its lead to 5-0 in the second. Jankowski tacked on her second run of the game, when Brittany Allen hit an RBI-single up the middle. Bothun pushed Allen home for the final run of the inning, as she advanced to third and scored on the throw. Lauren Gierlak tacked on an insurance run in the fifth when Barrett's RBI-single drove her home. Four Fighting Scots had multiple hits in the contest. Jankowski went a perfect 3-of-3 on her at-bats and scored a pair of runs, while Bothun had three RBI. Carley Nasca went the distance, as she pitched all seven innings. She allowed one run off four hits, while striking out a career-high 11 batters. She improved to 3-3 on the year.

ASHLAND 4, EDINBORO 3 (8)
The seesaw battle featured Edinboro on top for the majority of the contest. Ashland would strike first and took an early 1-0 lead when Kylie Asmus scored off Dayna Denner's RBI-double in the first inning. Roni Lipinski and Victoria Allocco each recorded a run in the second, and Edinboro took a 2-1 lead. A pair of Eagles runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, gave Ashland a 3-2 advantage. Edinboro tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the seventh. Barrett started the inning off with a single. Lauren Gierlak then entered as a pinch runner. The junior walked to second and reached third on Danna Heh's single. Brittany Allen's sacrifice fly to left field pushed Gierlak home knotting the contest at 3-3. In the eighth inning, Allocco advanced to third, but the Fighting Scots couldn't push her home. Ashland's Alli Hylton, who entered the bottom of the inning as a pinch-runner, scored the game-winning run on a throwing error. With the loss, Edinboro is now 0-5 in contests decided by one run this season. It also marks the first game of the campaign to go into extra innings. The loss goes to Carley Nasca, who pitched the final 3 1/3 innings after relieving Amanda Metz. Nasca gave up two runs off four hits with three strikeouts, while Metz allowed two runs off four hits, to go with an error and three strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched. Laney Jones captured the win pitching all eight innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, to go with nine strikeouts. The Fighting Scots had a combined 11 baserunners left on base, including four by Jankowski.
