EDINBORO, Pa - With athletic competition delayed through Dec. 31, 2020, former dual-sport athlete Trey Staunch has taken advantage of this unique challenge.

The Edinboro University graduate student and West Middlesex native has started a podcast called "The Trey Take."

"The Trey Take" is a platform for coaches and athletes to express themselves on precautions they're taking during COVID-19 and how this pandemic has allowed them to adjust their daily routines.

This medium – published on Edinboro University Athletics YouTube – will allow viewers to learn how student-athletes and coaches are remaining active and preparing for the potential spring season.

"Being a former athlete, I know the dedication and hard work coaches and players must put in to get ready for a season," Staunch said. "The athletes and coaches have accepted the challenge even through this pandemic. The podcast will serve as a platform for Fighting Scots to express themselves and show that Edinboro community members have great resilience and work ethics."

Getting to know the students and coaches that comprise the Athletics Department at Edinboro is a unique opportunity for Fighting Scots fans and for Stauch, who is completing the project as part of his master's degree.

Stay tuned for future episodes as Staunch interviews head women's basketball coach Callie Wheeler – who is comes off another winning season with a very talented underclassmen group. Also scheduled for this series are Edinboro women's head soccer coach Gary Kagiavas, who guided the Fighting Scots to the PSAC Championship game a year ago, and athletes like Anna Voelker (second team All-PSAC) and Bella Burrelli (two-sport athlete), and Jon Spaulding (Heavyweight wrestler).

Staunch is a former two-sport athlete, participating four years of football and three years of basketball for the Fighting Scots. He became a rarity as he earned All-PSAC honors in both sports.

Staunch received his bachelor's degree in Journalism and Public Relations in May of 2019. He is currently working on a master's degree in Communication Studies. He is a former Edinboro Scholar-Athlete and serves as a Graduate Assistant in the Sports Information Department.
