Football Continues PSAC West Play with Trip to IUP

INDIANA, Pa. -- The Edinboro football team travels to IUP for a 2 p.m. kickoff against the Crimson Hawks Saturday afternoon.

Block Party 
The Scots enter Saturday's contest as the national leaders in blocked kicks with eight. Jaohne Duggan and Bishop Simmons are tied for fourth in the nation while leading the PSAC with two blocks each. Edinboro had their streak of five consecutive games with a blocked kick snapped at Gannon last Saturday. They blocked a season-high three kicks on Sept. 18 at West Chester.

Two-Headed Monster
The Scots have used a pair of quarterbacks in PSAC West play with both Issac Bernard and Jordan Castelli taking snaps. Both passers have been efficent completing nearly 65 percent as a tandem. Bernard has passed for 407 yards and three scores while Castelli as gone for 191 and a pair of touchdowns. The duo has also rushed for a combined 138 yards and a touchdown.

Special Teams
Reed Martin currently ranks second in the PSAC in punting averaging 40.6 yards per punt good for 23rd in the nation. The coverage team has backed up their kicker helping the Scots to the third best net punting mark in the PSAC. Their average of 36.5 ranks 30th in Division II.

Familiar Foes
This will be the 89th all-time meeting between Edinboro and IUP. There is a familiarity not just between the two programs but also the head coaches. Prior to taking over as the Scots head coach, Jake Nulph spent a season coaching defensive backs under Crimson Hawk head coach Paul Tortorella. In that one season, Nulph helped two IUP defensive backs earn All-PSAC West accolades.

Getting Defensive
The Scots defense has two of the PSAC's top-25 tacklers in Saige Ley and Nick Cunningham. Ley paces the defense with 7.7 tackles per game which ranks 14th in the PSAC and 85th in the nation. Cunningham ranks 21st in the PSAC with 6.7 tackles per game. Tarique Smith currently ranks eighth in the PSAC in sacks recording 0.75 per game. CJ Walier ranks seventh in DII and second in the PSAC with two fumble recoveries. 

Hidden Yards
Edinboro is the least penalized teams in the PSAC. They take just 5.00 penalties per game and average just 48.43 penalty yards per contest.

Scouting the Crimson Hawks
IUP is now 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC West after dropping a 38-34 decision to No. 5 Cal U last Saturday. The Crimson Hawks have a potent passing attack averaging 317.4 yards per game through the air. Harry Woodberry triggers the offense, completing 93-of-148 for 1,247 yards and 18 touchdowns to just three interceptions. Duane Brown is IUP's leading receiver with 41 catches for 620 yards and four touchdowns. Irvin Charles has pulled in 10 touchdowns among his 34 catches for 539 yards. Malik Anderson leads the rushing attack with 64 carries for 361 yards and four touchdowns. Malachi Newell is the Crimson Hawks leading tackler with 43 stops, four going for a loss. Vaughn Wallace has only made 13 stops, but 5.5 of those have come for a loss including a team-high four sacks.
