Summer camps on Edinboro University campus serve as reminder Fall sports are on the way

EDINBORO, Pa. – Campus has been quiet over the past year, too quiet. That all changed as summer began and instructional camps returned to the grounds of Edinboro University.

Edinboro swimming hosted dozens of campers to bolster their skills in the water and further develop into competitive swimmers. Campers arrived from local school districts to learn some advanced techniques from the Edinboro coaching staff.

"The participants and their parents were very grateful that we were able to have our camp this year. They had a great experience and are looking forward to next year. It was great to be instructing the future of our sport and hopefully a few future Fighting Scots."

-Chris Rhodes, Edinboro swimming head coach

Women's basketball hosted camps to instruct student athletes spanning grades two through 12. Coaches and student athletes worked together to instill the fundamentals and work ethic necessary to compete in high school and collegiately.

"I believe camps are extremely valuable to our Edinboro community because it connects our program off the court with young players and their families. So often our players are perceived as fierce competitors but camps provide a unique environment for campers to see our player's true personalities.  It also provides an opportunity for my players to be in a role model position which I believe is an invaluable experience for them."

"Camps have also been extremely important in our recruiting process. We have had numerous campers become Fighting Scots!"

-Callie Wheeler, Edinboro women's basketball head coach

Football plays host to seven-on-seven squads and individuals alike at Sox Harrison Stadium. An energetic coaching staff is always eager to take the field, especially spending time with tomorrow's stars of the gridiron.

"The ability to get people on campus and show off Edinboro University is an important part of our program. We want to create a positive experience for all of our campers. Our goal is to teach each camper skills they can use to better themselves and their high school programs."

-Jake Nulph, Edinboro football head coach

Volleyball is offering options for individuals and teams in the form of summer overnight and commuter camps. Coaches and student athletes can both benefit from this camp that helps ensure readiness for the upcoming season.

"We are just so happy to be back in the gym and working with the student-athletes in our area who share our love for the game. This is also a time our Boro players come back and give back to our community by working with the younger players in our area."

-Missy Soboleski, Edinboro volleyball head coach

Wheelchair basketball and head coach Jim Glatch will host the 20th annual junior wheelchair basketball camp. Aspiring student athletes can learn from the same coach who helped prepare Trevon Jenifer for yet another trip to the Paralympics to represent the United States.
