Football Set to Host Seton Hill

Edinboro, Pa. -- The Edinboro football team returns home to Sox Harrison Stadium Saturday when they host Seton Hill at noon.

Last Time Out
The Fighting Scots are 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC West coming off a 47-17 road victory over host Clarion last Saturday. The Griffins are now 0-8 overall and 0-5 in the PSAC West dropping a 44-7 decision to IUP last week.

Thaddeus Standfield hauled in eight passes for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Edinboro offense against Clarion. Issac Bernard passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Clay Cunningham recorded 11 tackles including eight solo stops. Edinboro intercpeted four passes including two by Allen Stritzinger one that he returned 91 yards for a touchdown.

Hezikiah Hawkins hauled in a 33-yard pass from Tyler Bradley for the Griffins only score of the game against IUP. Narrio Walks paced the defense with 12 tackles, nine solo, including 3.0 tackles for loss. Musa Tama added six tackles including four solo stops.

The two teams have met just eight times with the Scots holding a 7-1 advantage.

Tackle Machine
Clay Cunningham continued to make double digit tackles making 11 stops against Clarion. He has recorded double-figure tackles in seven-of-eight games this season. He currently leads the PSAC and ranks second in the nation at 12.1 tackles per game.
The Fighting Scot defense ranks third in the PSAC and 28th in the nation against the pass. Edinboro allows just 171.2 yards per game through the air.

Takeaways
Edinboro's defense has also  been effective taking the ball away from other teams. The Scots have forced 17 turnovers ranking second in the PSAC and 24th in the nation after intercepting four Golden Eagle passes last week. 

Honor Roll
Freshman defensive lineman JR Tellington made good on his first career start making 11 tackles and returning an interception for a touchdown and earning PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors after Edinboro defeated Mercyhurst 16-13 last week.

Reed Martin has been named the PSAC West Special Teams Player of the Week twice this season after Scot victories over Franklin Pierce and Bloomsburg. Martin is currently atop the PSAC in punting averaging 42.5 yards per punt ranking 11th in D-II. 

Hidden Yardage
The Edinboro coverage team is holding opponents to five yards per return. The result is the ninth best net punting margin in the nation at 39.7 yards per punt.

The special teams unit has also been strong on kickoff coverage. The 14.5 yards per kickoff return is the 11th best mark in the country. 

Air Attack
After no receiver went over 100 yards in the 2019 season, Thaddeus Standfield crossed the 100-yard threshold for the third time this season going for 138 on eight catches against Clarion. Standfield averages 6.1 catches per game third in the PSAC and 19th in D-II. He has also had success as a kick returner ranking 26th in the nation in all-purpose yards with 134.8 yards per game.

Close Calls
After going 2-4 in games decided by one score a season ago, Edinboro has been on the other end of the results this season. The Scots are currently 3-0 in games decided by one score in 2022.

Red Zone
After starting the season 1-for-9 in the red zone without a touchdown, the Scots have improved to 16-for-31 scoring eight touchdowns. Keon Anderson has helped the Scot red zone offense rushing for three touchdowns and throwing for a score. Edinboro was a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone against Clarion.

Breaking Through
The Scots led the the country across all divisions in blocked kicks in the 2021 season. Edinboro went without a blocked kick before Wilfredo Diaz got a hand on a punt against Clarion last Saturday.

Scouting the Griffins
JaiQuawn McGriff leads the Griffins in rushing with 385 yards on 126 carries. He also has two rushing touchdowns.  Tyler Bradley has made  the last two starts at quarterback and is 22-of-41 for 265 yards and two touchdowns. Mark Bails is the leading receiver for Seton Hill withy 20 catches for 336 yards and three scores. Hezikiah Hawkins adds 180 yards on 15 catches and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Jaylen McDuffie leads the Griffins in tackles with 84 totoal tackles incluing 13.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Narrio Walks chips in 73 tackles, 7.5 for a loss and 2.5 sacks. Alton Jones has two intercpetions and two pass break ups to go with 28 tackles.
