Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro football team sent off six seniors with a 26-13 victory over visiting Lock Haven Saturday afternoon at Sox Harrison Stadium.
With the score tied at 6-6, Lock Haven decided to go for a fourth and five from their own 38. The pass fell incomplete setting up the Scots with great field position. Edinboro went the wrong way to start the drive and faced a third and 19 from the Lock Haven 47-yard line.
Isaac Bernard completed a 12-yard pass to
Mike Watkins and then an 18-yarder to
Nico Mrvos to advance the ball to the Lock Haven 17. Bernard scrambled for four and then connected on a back-shoulder throw to Watkins for the score giving Edinboro a 13-6 lead.
An unsportsmanlike penalty helped the set up the Bald Eagles at their own 49 to start the ensuing drive. It took Lock Haven just four plays to cover the 51-yards to tie the game at 13.
The tie didn't last long as
Thaddeus Standfield returned the kickoff over midfield to the Lock Haven 49. The Scots covered all 49 yards through the air capped by a 28-yard catch and run by Mrvos on fourth and eight to give the Scots the lead for good.
Keon Anderson would set the final with his second touchdown of the day rushing in from three yards out with 6:08 to play in the game.
The Bald Eagles struck first with a 24-yard field from Brett Zachman with 7:33 left in the first after a sack derailed their opening drive.
It was a Lock Haven miscue that set up the Scots first score. A bad snap on a Bald Eagle punt left Zachmann scrambling.
Wilfredo Diaz eventually was able to recover the loose ball at the Lock Haven one. Anderson scored on the first play of the drive, but the PAT was no-good making it 6-3 Scots with 14:44 left in the second. Zachmann tied the score with 9:40 to play in the half with a 32-yard field goal.
The Edinboro defense had eight sacks led by 1.5 each from
Wilfredo Diaz and
Nick Cunningham. The Scots left Lock Haven with -48 rushing yards on the day.
Diaz tallied 11 tackles, 2.5 for a loss, a fumble recovery and a pass break up.
Malcolm Johnson and
Nick Cunningham each tallied eight tackles.
Bernard finished the game 20-of-27 for 251 yards and two scores. Mrvos hauled in seven passes for 90 yards and a touchdown. Karamago Sylla was the leading rusher with 44 yards on eight carries.
Matt Stanton led the Lock Haven offense with 203 yards through the air. Marquon Williams had six catches for 143 yards.
"Even if it wasn't pretty, it is always great to get a win," said head coach
Jake Nulph. "We wanted to thank the six seniors for all they have done for our program and get them a win. This is one more building block to set us up for the spring and 2023."
