Erie, Pa. – After dropping the opener, the Edinboro softball team pitched a game two shutout to earn a split in their PSAC West opening twin bill at Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon.
In the opener, the Scots jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third. After a lead off fly out,
Stephanie Krick doubled and moved to third on an Antonia Schafer infield single.
Lexi Klatt plated both runners with a double down the left field line. Edinboro would leave runners on second and third in the inning.
Mercyhurst answered with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth on a Sarah Koscho solo home run and a Chole McQuestion RBI single to tie the game. The Lakers scored a run each in the fifth and sixth to extend the lead to 4-2.
Edinboro pushed back in the seventh putting runners on first and second with two outs.
Mackenzie Quider singled home a run to cut the lead to 4-3, but Mercyhurst held off the rally to earn the 4-3 win.
Macy Sral was left with a no-decision in the circle going five innings allowing three runs on five hits and three walks.
Dylan Claycomb took the loss allowing one run in one inning of work.
Schaefer and Quider each recorded a pair of hits to pace the Scots offense.
In the nightcap,
Lauren Bush tossed a complete game shutout allowing just five hits while not issuing a walk and striking out 10.
The Scots got on the board in the top of the first when
Cheyenne Shughart singled home Schaefer. The Scots struck again in the sixth when
Hana Vish hit a sac fly plating Shughart who had singled earlier in the inning. That set the final at 2-0.
Shughart led the bats in game two going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Edinboro is back in action on Wednesday when they host Malone in a non-conference contest. It will be the Scots home opener with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
