Softball Closes Out Season with a Doubleheader Split with Cal

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team split their final PSAC West regular season doubleheader against visiting Cal Saturday afternoon.

The Scots dropped the opening game of the series 6-2 before coming back with a 4-0 victory in the second game.

In the game two, the Fighting Scots used a trio of Cal errors to score four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Maya Kozup got the inning started with a one-out single. Kozup moved to second on a wild pitch and came around to score on an error by the second baseman. Mackenzie Quider grounded to third and the ball was thrown away putting runners on second and third. Maura Pasquale grounded to the second baseman and a misplay allowed the Cheyenne Shughart to score. Hana Vish doubled home Quider to make the score 4-0.

Lauren Bush would make the four runs stand up tossing seven scoreless innings allowing just four hits while striking out six and not allowing a walk.

In the opener, Cal took a 3-0 lead after scoring a run in each of the first, third and fourth. The Scots answered in the bottom of the fifth. Bush started the inning with a one-out single. After a strikeout, Kearnson Wagner singled to move Bush to second. Lexi Klatt singled home Bush and Kozup plated Wagner with a single to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Vulcans put up two insurance in the sixth and another in the seventh to set the final.

Macy Sral took the loss in the circle allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Dylan Claycomb allowed three runs, one earned, in 3.2 innings of work.

Klatt and Bush each picked up two hits to lead the offense.
