Brian Trobel found the endzone five times as the Edinboro football team scored a 36-30 victory over host Lock Haven Saturday afternoon in the season finale.
The Scots trailed 23-22 entering the fourth quarter with the ball and a first and 10 at the Lock Haven 45. After an incompletion, a
Jerry Dinkins gained a yard on a rush and seven more on a pass reception to set up a fourth and two.
Isaac Bernard connected with
Armani Bailey for five yards to extend the drive and set up a nine-yard touchdown run by Trobel to make it 28-23. Jack Hollibuagh caught the two-point conversion pass to extend the lead to seven, 30-23.
The Scot defense stopped the Bald Eagles on the ensuing on fourth and two to give the offense the ball back at the Lock Haven 39. A Lock Haven penalty extended the Edinboro drive as the Scots were faced with a third and 19. On the next play, Trobel ripped off a 19-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 36-23.
Lock Haven answered with 1:24 left in the game on a 36-yard pass from Kyle Zajack to Marquis Perry to cut the advantage to 36-30, but the Scots prevented the onside kick and the Edinboro defense stood up after a turnover on downs to preserve the win.
The Bald Eagles opened the scoring with a Chris Collier 13-yard touchdown run at the 8:21 mark of the first quarter. The teams traded three-and-outs giving the Scots the ball back at their own 30 yardline with 5:38 left in the first quarter. The Scots marched the ball to the Bald Eagle five before the end of the quarter. On the first play of the second, Trobel punched in the touchdown on a five-yard rush tying the score 7-7.
Lock Haven retook the lead on a three-play, 98-yard drive capped by a 35-yard T'air Young reception with 2:21 left to play in the first half. The Bald Eagles missed the extra point to make the score 13-7. The Scots got the ball back took all but 18 seconds off the clock scoring on a 19-yard pass from Bernard to Trobel to give Edinboro a 14-13 lead heading to the locker room.
Lock Haven moved the ball on the opening possession of the second half, but stalled out at the Edinboro 22 yardline and had to settle for a 39-yard field goal by Brett Zachman to take a 16-14 lead.
Edinboro came right back scoring on a two-yard plunge by Trobel at the 2:42 mark of the third. Lock Haven retook the lead with 11 seconds left in the quarter when Zajack hit Young for a 22-yard touchdown.
Trobel became the first Fighting Scot with five touchdowns in a game since Elbert Cole scored six against Slippery Rock on Nov. 4, 1989. He tallied 59 rushing yards on 18 carries with four touchdowns while also catching five passes for 52 yards and another score.
Jerry Dinkins made the most of his five carries finishing with 54 yards for a 10.8 yards per carry average.
Bernard finished the day a highly efficient 22-for-30 for 194 yards and a score.
Teagan Brown was the leading receiver with five catches for 59 yards.
Armani Bailey added seven catches for 51 yards.
Collier led the Bald Eagle offense with 160 rushing yards and a touchdown. Zajack was 17-of-30 for 246 yards and three scores. Young was the top target with five catches for 101 yards and two scored.
CJ Waldier led the Edinboro defense again with 12 tackles, nine solo, as well as a sack.
Malcolm Johnson added seven stops while
Toby Cline notched five.
