Clarion, Pa. – The Edinboro wrestling team opened the  2023-24 season with a trip to the Clarion Open on Sunday.
 
Max Kirby scored four wins on day. He opened with an 11-1 major over Adam Salek of John Carroll. He followed that up with another 11-1 major over Matt Romanelli of Columbia. He dropped to the consolation bracket after a 14-6 loss to Isaac Wilcox. Kirby topped Kent State's Hunter Andel 8-4. Kirby majored Roberto Padilla 14-2 before falling 9-4 to Cooper Noehre of Purdue.
 
Jacob Brenneman had a solid day at 133 posting a 3-2 record. He opened his day with a 17-1 tech fall over Clayton Bashor of Clarion. After falling to Angelo Rini of Columbia, Brenneman scored a 15-6 major over Matt Ellis of Kent State. He advanced with a 10-7 decision over TJ England of Clarion. Brenneman's day came to an end with a 13-8 loss to Tyler Ferrara.
 
Jack Kilner was also 3-2 on the day at 197. He won his first match 4-1 over Josh McCutchen of Gardner-Webb. He then fell 5-1 to Sam Mitchell of Buffalo. In his first consolation match, Kilner defeated Lonnell Ownes-Pabon of Buffalo 3-2. Kilner won his next match 6-3 over Adam Haselius of Columbia. Kilner wrapped up his day with a 2-1 loss to Jake Lucas of Navy.
 
Nick Lodato also had a strong showing at 197 going 3-2 as well. Lodato lost his opener 8-2 to Carter Blough of Michigan State Lodato pinned Cole Robertson of Ohio State in 5:22 and then scored a 6-2 decision over Eidson Flores of Gardner-Webb. Lodato tallied a 2-0 decision over Connor Jacobs of Clarion. Lodato fell 12-1 to Mitchell.
 
Brody Evans posted a 2-2 record on the day falling to Luke Vanadia of Michigan State in the opener. He won a shootout 14-11 over Joseph Curtis of Columbia. In his next match, Evans scored a 4-2 decision over Jesse Kanatzar of John Carroll. Evans lost a 15-1 decision to Drew Clearie.
 
The Scots are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Ohio for a dual with Ohio State as well as the Ohio Intercollegiate Open.
