Softball Opens Spring Break Trip with Pair of Wins on Sunday

Leesburg, Fla. -- The Edinboro softball team got off to a fast start earning a pair of victories on Sunday to open their season at the The Spring Games in Leesburg, Fla.

In the opener, the Scots scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 6-5 victory over Holy Family. In the second game of the day, Edinboro scored a 2-1 victory over Saint Rose.

Trailing 5-3 after Holy Family score a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, Antonia Schaefer started the rally with a one out single. Kayla Terwilliger laid down a sacrifice bunt, but a throwing error on the catcher put runners at first and second with one out. Maura Pasquale wasted no time tying the score with a two-run double. Mackenzie Quider flew out before Cheyenne Shugarts drew a walk and Sydney Lochocki drew a catcher's interference to load the bases. Stephanie Krick delivered the game-winning RBI single to lift the Scots to victory.

For the third straight season, Quider hit a home run in her first at bat of the year. Maya Kozup also homered for the Scots against the Tigers. Schaefer led the way with a pair of hits for Edinboro. Macy Sral picked up the win for the Scots with a complete game allowing five runs, while striking out eight and walking three.

In the nightcap, the Scots trailed 1-0 after the top of the first. Edinboro tied the game with an unearned tally in the bottom of the second. Quider delivered and RBI single in the third scoring Terwilliger and starter Lauren Bush made the lead hold up in the circle. She went seven innings allowing one unearned run on five hits, striking out eight and walking two. Bush surpassed 100 career strikeouts on the day and now has 104 for her career.

The Scots return to action on Monday with two more games in The Spring Games tournament against Walsh and Lake Erie.
