Softball Drops Two Games to Slippery Rock

Slippery Rock, Pa. – The Edinboro softball fell in a pair of games to host Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action.

The Scots dropped a 7-2 decision in the opener before falling 14-12 in an offensive slugfest in the second game.

The Rock jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opener with a pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the second inning. Julianna Hutchinson added to the lead with a two-run single in the third making it 4-0 Slippery Rock.

Kayla Terwilliger got Edinboro on the board with a single in the fourth that plated Morgan Spitler. Slippery Rock added two unearned runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-1. Alexsa Hurd added an insurance tally with a solo home run in the sixth.

Stephanie Krick belted a solo home run for the Scots in the seventh inning, setting the final.

Kendra Keyser led the Scots with a pair of hits. Macy Sral took the loss in the circle allowing seven runs, only three earned over 5.1 innings of work. 

The Scots opened the scoring in game two with Cheyenne Shughart singling home Krick and then coming around to score on a Mackenzie Quider home run in the top of the fourth. Slippery Rock answered by scoring 13 runs in the first three innings building a 13-3 advantage.

Edinboro started to rally in the top of the fourth scoring four runs keyed by a two-run single from Shughart. The Scots pushed across five runs across in the top of the sixth to trim the lead to 13-12. Slippery Rock tacked on a run in the bottom of the frame to hold off the Edinboro charge.

Shughart recorded three hits to lead the Scot offense. Krick and Olivia Weller each tallied a pair of knocks. Dylan Claycomb took the loss in the circle allowing 11 runs, four earned.

The Scots close out the regular season on Sunday when they host Seton Hill at 1 p.m.
