California, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped an 88-73 decision to host California (Pa.) Wednesday night in PSAC West action.
The Scots got out to an 11-7 advantage on a
Daunte Wilcott layup at the 15:54 mark of the first quarter. The Vulcans scored the next seven points capped by a KJ McClurg trey at the 13:55 mark.
Bernie Blunt answered with a 3-pointer to tie the game, but Cal tallied the next five points to take a 19-14 lead with 12:53 left in the first.
Cal would grow the lead to 28-18 on a pair of Donald Whitehead Jr free throws.
JJ Eubank scored all seven of the Scots points in a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 32-27 at the 7:01 mark. The lead was still five, 42-37, with 1:07 to play in the first half. The Vulcans closed the half on a 6-2 run to take a 48-39 lead into the half.
In the second half, Cal carried the momentum and jumped out to a 54-39 advantage on a Zyan Collings layup at 16:50. Edinboro responded with an 8-2 run cutting the lead to 56-47 on a
Jack Gallagher layup with 13:34 to play. The Vulcans answered with a 17-5 run opening up the lead to 73-52. The Scots would get as close as 13, 84-71, with 1:42 to play, but that was as close as they would get.
Blunt paced the Edinboro offense with 18 points to go with four assists and three rebounds.
Madior Seye tallied 13 points and six boards while
Easton Fulmer tallied 12 points.
McClurg scored 22 points and eight rebounds to lead the Vulcans. Whitehead tallied 17 points while Collins finished with 15.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Clarion for a 3 p.m. tip against the Golden Eagles.
