Wrestling Drops MAC Dual to George Mason

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro wrestling team opened the night with three straight wins, but George Mason took the final three bouts of the match as the Scots dropped a 21-18 decision to the visiting Patriots Friday night in McComb Fieldhouse

After a scoreless first period, Edinboro's Chris Vargo scored an escape in the second. Ben Monn equaled the escape in the third sending the match to sudden victory. Vargo scored the take down 25 seconds into the sudden victory period to claim the 4-1 decision and put the Scots up 3-0.

Colton Camacho scored bonus points for the Scots at 133. Leading 3-1 in the second, Camacho took down Charlie Bunting and put him to his back earning the fall to put Edinboro ahead 9-0 in the dual.

Anthony Ferraro fell behind Dom Hargrove 6-0 after the first period. With the choice, Ferraro chose neutral and scored a take down at the 1:18 mark of the second. He scored four back points with 38 seconds left and took a 7-6 lead into the third. Hargrove kept the bout on the feet in the third and Ferraro scored another take down to win the match 10-6 extending the lead to 12-0 Edinboro.

Kaden Cassidy got out fast on Garrett McChesney at 149 scoring the takedown 25 seconds in the first and finished the first with a 13-0 lead. Cassidy started the second on top and scored two nearfall points to earn the tech fall at 3:27 to cut the lead to 12-5.

Ryan Michaels used a first period takedown to hold a 3-1 lead after the first over DJ McGee. Michaels picked up an escape and a point on a technical violation before riding out McGee in the third for a 5-1 decision.

George Mason's Evan Maag held a 10-2 lead after the first period over Edinboro's Max Kirby. Maag kept the pressure on holding an 18-7 lead after two. A pair of takedowns for Maag gave him the 24-9 tech fall cutting the Edinboro lead to 15-10.

With the score tied 1-1 late in the third period, Edinboro's Brody Evans scored a takedown with 11 second left to claim a 4-1 decision extending the Scot lead to 18-10.

Malachi DuVall got ahead early in the first on Hunter Hutchenson holding a 5-0 lead after the first. An escape and a takedown extended the DuVall advantage to 9-0 after two. A pair of three point nearfalls in the third made it 15-0 for DuVall earning the tech fall and cutting the Edinboro lead to 18-15 in the dual.

After a scoreless first period, Edinboro's Nick Lodato scored an escape to start the second and Lodato would take that 1-0 lead into the third. In the third, Lodato was called for a locked hands to tie the score 1-1. Tyler Kocak scored the escape with 1:17 to go and held off a late offensive push from Lodato to earn a 2-1 decision tying the dual 18-18.

Kade Sottolano and James Blackman squared off in the final bout and the first period ended with no score. Blackman rode out Sottolano in the second. In the third, Blackman scored the escape to go up 2-0 and a late takedown for Blackman closed out the dual with a 5-0 decision to give the Patriots a 21-18 dual victory.
