Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro football team dropped a 23-21 decision to visiting Millersville on a field goal as time expired Saturday afternoon inside Sox Harrison Stadium.
Zidane Thomas put the Scots ahead with a 25-yard touchdown run with 4:26 left in the game. The Marauders moved the ball downfield on the arm of Ryan Zeltt and with three first downs via penalty. Trent McDowell capped the drive with a 26-yard field goal as time expired to give the Marauders the victory.
The Scots trailed 20-0 after a 33-yard touchdown pass from Zeltt to Brady Russell with 13:07 left in third quarter. The Scots faced a third and 12 late in the third quarter when
Isaac Bernard hit
Teagan Brown for 36 yards and moving the ball to the Millersville 31. On the very next play, Bernard hit
Jaret Frantz down the left sideline for a 31-yard touchdown with 31 seconds on the clock cutting the lead to 20-7.
With 10:40 left in the fourth quarter, Edinboro got the ball back at their own 26 after a Marauder punt. After a loss of two on first down, Bernard hit Frantz for 19 yards and a Millersville was called for a pass interference penalty moving the ball to the Marauder 42. Back-to-back completions to
Jerry Dinkins III and Frantz advanced the ball to the 25. Bernard connected with Frantz at the 10 and Frantz broke a tackle scoring and cutting the lead to 20-14.
On the ensuing Millersville possession, the Scot defense forced a three-and-out getting the ball back for the offense at the Edinboro 27. Bernard and Frantz hooked up again this time for 25 yards moving the ball to the Marauder 48. Facing a third and seven, Bernard found
Teagan Brown over the middle for 20 yards and a first down at the Millersville 25. Thomas broke off a 25-yard run to give the Scots the lead for the first time 21-20 with 4:26 left.
The Marauders scored first with a five-play 55-yard touchdown drive capped by a 13-yard touchdown pass from Zeltt to Kam Taylor at the 4:55 mark of the first quarter. The Marauders extended the lead with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Zeltt to Isaac Sines making the score 13-0. Millersville would take that lead into the break.
In the third, Millersville took advantage of a short field scoring on a 33-yard double reverse flea-flicker from Zeltt to Russell to make it 20-0 at the 13:07 mark.
Bernard finished the day 26-of-35 for 306 yards and two touchdowns. Frantz caught nine passes for 164 yards and both scores. Dinkins was the Scots leading rusher with 11 carries for 40 yards.
Wilfredo Diaz finished a stellar campaign with 13 more tackles tying him for the 10
th most tackles in a single season in Edinboro history with 150. Cory Gross Jr. led the team with 16 total tackles.
Zeltt finished the day 26-of-41 for 336 yards with three touchdowns. Jaheim Morris led the rushing attack with 19 carries for 81 yards. Russell caught four passes for 83 yards and a score. Judah Rock led the defense for the Marauders with nine stops.
