Football Scores PSAC West Victory Over Seton Hill

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro defense forced three turnovers, and the offense rushed for nearly 200 yards as the Fighting Scots picked up a 24-22 victory over Seton Hill Saturday afternoon inside Sox Harrison Stadium.

With the score tied at 14-14 in the third, the Scot defense forced a Seton Hill punt from their own 45. Jack Wagner took the snap and faced immediate pressure and was tackled by Wilfredo Diaz and CJ Waldier for a 13-yard loss setting the Edinboro offense up at the Griffin 32.

The Scots got off to a rocky start on the drive with a holding call on the opening play of the ensuing drive, but a nine-yard pass to Isaiah Grier on third and 16 and a Griffin unnecessary roughness penalty moved the ball to the Seton Hill 14. Isaac Bernard hit Teagan Brown with a back-shoulder throw to put the ball at the 1-yardline and Bo Swartz punched it in on the ground for his ninth rushing score of the season at the 7:49 mark of the third.

The Scots saw themselves backed up late in the third and forced to punt from their own eight. The punt snap was high, and Reed Martin was taken down in the endzone for a safety cutting the Edinboro advantage to 21-6 with 2:31 remaining in the third quarter.

Brayden Lambert extended the Fighting Scot lead to 24-16 with 8:09 to play in the game connecting on a 32-yard field goal capping an eight-play, 67-yard drive that took 5:28 off the clock.

Edinboro had a chance to extend the lead with 3:42, but Lambert's field goal attempt was blocked giving the Griffins the ball back at their own 32-yard line. Seton Hill drove 68-yards capped by a Jake Cruz to Cody Rubrecht 13-yard touchdown pass cutting the lead to 24-22. On the two-point conversion, Cory Gross Jr. hit Cruz just as he threw to preserve the Edinboro lead. Gavin Ennis recovered the onside kick and the Scots kneeled out the clock to secure the win.

Seton Hill scored first with Cruz hitting Todd Phillips for a 79-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 7-0.

The Scots tied the game in the second marching the ball 85-yards on 15 plays with 79 yards coming on the ground capped by a two-yard touchdown run by Swartz to knot the game 7-7 with 2:51 left in the half.

Edinboro's defense forced a three-and-out and after a 33-yard punt the Scot offense took the field with 1:44 remaining in the half and the ball on the Scot 46. On the opening play of the drive, Bernard hit Jeremiah Neeley for 17 yards to the Seton Hill 37. Caron Robinson rushed for four yards and Bernard connected with Brown for 15 more moving the ball to the Griffin 18. Bernard went right back to Brown for an 18-yard touchdown giving Edinboro a 14-7 lead that they took into the half.
