Wrestling Splits Pair of MAC Duals on the Weekend

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro wrestling team topped visiting Bloomsburg 31-7 on Saturday after falling 38-6 at Cleveland State on Friday.

The Huskies got out to a 4-0 lead when Bronson Garber major decisioned Caleb Edwards. Bronson scored a takedown as time expired in the first then scored six points in the second to build a 9-0 lead. Edwards escaped to start the third, but couldn't find his offense falling 10-1 with the riding time point going to the Husky.

Bumping up a weight class, Eamonn Jimenez took on Bloomsburg's Major Lewis. Jimenez scored a takedown midway through the first, but Lewis scored a reversal to make it 3-2 after one. Lewis tied the match with an escape to open the second, but in the final seconds of the second, Jimenez scored another takedown to go up 6-3. In the third, Lewis scored a point on a Jimenez stall and Jimenez tallied the riding time point for a 7-4 decision.

Colin Roberts found himself trailing 10-1 after the first period and 11-1 after two. He found his offense in the third scoring three takedowns and forced two stall points for an 11-point period. Although he still dropped a 15-12 decision he turned around what was looking like sure bonus points for Bloomsburg and held it to a decision.

Gannon Jaquay scored a takedown at 1:48 and two nearfall points near the end of the first jumping out to a 5-0 lead on Nick Antonelli. In the second, Antonelli scored an escape, but Jaquay scored another takedown to extend the lead to 8-1. Antonelli would pick up an escape and a point on a technical violation to cut the lead to 8-3 after two. Jaquay would be called twice in the third for stall points but came out with an 8-5 decision extending the Edinboro lead to 12-7 at the intermission.

Max Kirby got to the offense first scoring a takedown of Caden Dobbins with 58 seconds left in the first. Dobbins would grab the lead before the end of the opening period with a reversal and two nearfall points. Kirby tied the match with an escape in the second. Kriby grabbed two nearfall points early in the second and built enough riding time that it was the difference claiming a 7-6 decision.

Joey Arnold scored a takedown and three nearfall points to jump out to a 6-0 lead on Nolen Zeigler after one. After an early second period escape, Arnold tallied another takedown and four more back points pushing the advantage to 14-0 after two. Zeigler escaped in the second, but Arnold notched a 17-1 technical fall with a takedown with 22 seconds left in the third.

Brody Evans scored a pair of takedowns in the first to take a 6-1 lead over Matt Benedetti. A stall point and a reversal gave Evans a 9-1 advantage after two. Evans would pick up another stall point and the riding time point to claim an 11-3 major decision.

Jack Kilner would also pick up bonus points for the Scots scoring two first period takedowns to go up 6-1. Kilner scored the only points of the second, an escape 15 seconds in to extend the lead to 7-1. Two more takedowns and the riding time point secured the major at 14-3 over Kolby Flank.

After a scoreless first, Aden Roe put on a clinic from the top position riding Bloomsburg's Harrison Levans for the full two minutes in the second. Roe got out just six seconds into the third for the first points of the match. Roe sealed the win with a takedown with 14 seconds left claiming a 5-0 decision with riding time.

Ben Aranda scored a first period takedown and Edwards scored an escape to make it 3-1 in favor of the Viking after one. Aranda would score an escape and two takedowns to push the lead to 10-2. Arnada would close out the match in the third claiming a 14-4 major decision.

Nick Molchak took down Jimenez in the first and after a reversal scored a fall 33 seconds into the second period.

Brenneman got on the board first against Kylan Layton, but Layton escaped and scored seven more points in the first on a takedown and four backs before scoring the fall at 2:22.

Roberts wrestled Douglas Terry to a scoreless draw after one. Terry scored an escape which was the only points of the second. Roberts chose neutral to start the third and claimed the 3-1 decision with a third period takedown.

Marcus Robinson got out to a 6-1 lead on Jaquay in the first period and used four third period takedowns to score the 21-5 technical fall.

Daniel Patten took down Kirby in the first period and scored the pin in 2:26.

DeAndre Nassar led 3-0 after one over Arnold and used a takedown in each of the second and third to claim an 11-1 major decision.

Evans lead 1-0 after a second period escape over Joey Lyons. Lyons tied the match with an escape of his own, but Evans found a takedown in the third to score a 4-2 decision.

After a scoreless first, Benjamin Smith took a 1-0 lead after an escape against Jack Kilner. Kilner tied the match with an escape, but Smith scored a late takedown to claim a 4-1 decision.

Daniel Bucknavich got on the board first with a first period takedown and held Nick Lodato down for the rest of the period setting up a 13-0 major decision to close out the dual.
 
The Scots are back in action next Saturday when they host Lock Haven inside McComb Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
